Oh word? I didn't know that. Ima gonna hafta bug em about it.
Yeah, im going to be there on the 8th of Sept.
I'm just trying to soak up some of the non-clubbing nightlife. check out some live music. eat some good food. and see some cool shit that the city has to offer that most cities don't. and don't know where to begin.

I hear Costa Rica is nice, this time of year.
There is a cool downtown district with some live music. Also, great asian food distric near downtown. Depending on where you're staying, lots of stuff is within walking distance of the convention center. The SJ Museums are nice, too.

I was there last month visiting the inlaws. The only "fun" thing we did was take the kid to Bonfante Gardens (http://www.bonfantegardens.com/).
Yeah, I wouldn't recomend it unless you have some youngsters or are really into plants.

the great part is it close to every thing the beach and the snow
you can go walk Los Gatos downtown or cruz santa clara st , but you must likely get pulled over

Bonfante Gardens kinda blows unless you a little kid or realy old,
the mystery house is cool .... been thier atleast 5 times
another good one but is kinda hard to find is the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot http://www.mysteryspot.com/
beening that I've lived here all my life , most of the funnest time were in places that I wasn't sposed to be , quick silver mine, sneaking in to Los Gatos Christian Church at nite ( place is big its' own shcool in it )
some of the best food can be found at liq stores , like happy hollow market makes the best bbq ribs , El Rancho Liquors Almaden Rd & Vine makes killer tacos
Word.
Thanks for the suggestions...now its time to narrow down which ones to go too since i'm only there for the weekend.
Any ideas on places to go for good live shows? Not arenas or anything...but something a few leaps ahead of some homo coffee shop.

Your best bet is to get a copy of the Mercury News on Thursday, the 7th -- that's when the entertainment supplement called "Eye" lists everything that's going on that weekend.
Depending on what kind of music you want, you can hit clubs for blues, jazz, DJs, etc. Be a little careful if you wander too far south of San Carlos to -- I hate to say this, but -- the, uh, "urban" clubs. There's one or two that police crack down on because of so much violence. Just a few months back, somebody opened fire in the parking lot: a couple dozen shots at the crowd. Not cool.
I don't know that San José has any real "must sees," but it's got tons of "cool to sees." Just depend on your tastes.
