When I crafted my first post here about an interview with MCA ("I interviewed Yauch!"), I had no idea what kind of response I would get. I did the interview with true Beasties fans in mind, as I've been one since I first saw them open for Madonna on the Like a Virgin Tour here in Orlando. I tried to convey just how much of a fan I was without creeping MCA out, while at the same time at least attempting to get some answeres to questions I had pondered for years.
Thanks so much to each and every one of you who checked out the interview and/or offered feedback. It means a lot to me that you, the hardcore Beasties fans, could appreciate the interview. I'll definitely keep you posted on anything else we do that's even remotely Beastie Boys-related. Much appreciated!

It was a cool interview man (y)
As I'm sure you've heard. I think you got a decent balence between saying some things that you've probably wanted to say to the Beasties (or a Beastie) for a long time, which was mainly you're gratitude towards them. I think for hardcores like yourself you almost must've felt obliged to say how much they've meant to you, I certainly do.
And you asked some solid questions, kept a good interview style and that...so fair play mate.
dave.

Great interview for sure, but you did leave out one very important question, at least it is to this community. If you ever get a second chance to interview MCA, or any of the boys, could you please ask where the infamous "Mashed Potatoes" sample came from. We have been trying to find the source for years and still no luck.

I give you mad props man.
I've met many celebrities along the way and have managed to be pretty cool with every encounter and/or conversation. However, I cannot ever imagine (if I'm ever lucky enough) talking to a Beastie Boy face to face and being coherent. I'd be all, words.... what? Then they'd be all damn, I see you all up in the board talking all sorts of stuff... spit it girl! Uh yeah. :o
So anyhoo, great job maintaining composure! (y)

egg-zactly! i can see myself practicing in a mirror..."h-hey...what's...up? doh! i'm a fool..." and beating my head up against the wall....oh sweet utter humiliation :p
it was the end of the day and i'm walking down the hall when my teacher (the one who looks like adrock. sort of.) was walking towards me and he half-glanced at me i guess, and i thought i was gonna fall over (it's the eyes! piercing!)
if it was the read deal, i think i'd be staring at my feet the entire time :S

Hahaha...it's buggin me, too. And a few other on here.
Yo Bionic, it's not Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx or Bebe's Kids. I've bought all of those.
Yauch even tried to answer it by saying it was from some old comedy album from someone he thought was "montel" or something. This hint has not really gotten us anywhere closer.
Someone also emailed Mario C's website and they received a response back saying it was one or Horovitz's records...so he's probably the best bet and figuring it out.
But...back to topic. Thanks Drew for sharing...and keep us posted if you get any scoopage.

I don't know if I ever want to find out where this sample came from. If I ever did, my life would be complete and then I could go on ahead to that deluxe apartment in the sky.

hearing Yauch give love to his fanbase was the best part of that interview... only a die-hard could have gotten that kind of response from him...
perhaps he was in Massachusetts for the tribute to Israel Horovitz, creative director of Gloucester Stage Company, who anounced his retirement at the end of the year?
