Hi Everyone,
I've watched my fair share of hip hop videos and I have to say most are absolutely sxxt! Money, girls in hot pants guns, cars all with low grade pap that is pedicatable. With the beasties employing clever directors, visual imagery, humour and rawness which black rap artist is also cool in this respect.
i like Jay Z with the black album (Rick Ruben) and outkast.
I don't mean to make it a colour issue but as white rappers are in the minority I thought i would put it out there. Yes maybe most white guys can't rap and only the best get through but I'm sick of the banality of most mainstream hip hop.

Even though you've already acknowledged your flawed logic, I think I should reiterate how harmful it is to see this as a color issue. You just need to readjust your thinking to get past that. Rhyme skills are not directly related to skin color. And suggesting that guns, hot pants, money, etc. is a "black" rap thing is insulting to the millions of black and brown people who strongly oppose those stereotypes. What you're talking about is just the state of MAINSTREAM hip hop (which, by the way, is fueled by white suburbonites and business men, not blacks.) What you see on TV is the culmination of white society's fantasy of how black people are. Don't be duped by the television. What you see on MTV is not a representation of black America or even black hip hop. So again, I think you have a serious flaw with the question.
But if you're looking for Black and Brown MCs who can hold it down in that same vein
Del the Funky Homosapien
De La Soul (Posdnuos, Trugoy, Maseo)
Mos Def
Q-Tip (Tribe Called Quest)
Black Thought (The Roots)
Lyrics Born
Lateef
Mr. Lif
MF Doom
Yeshua daPoed
Siah
Gift of Gab (Blackalicious)
Jurassic 5 (Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir, Mark 7even)
Kool Kieth
That's just a few. And just remember that MCing started out as a predominantly black form of expression and that most of the styles you hear the Beasties kicking were created by black MCs in the mid 70s.
But this shit ain't a race war. Individuals need to stand on their own two feet regardless of what color their skin is. It ain't like people are keeping a tally like "okay, the Beastie Boys are good rappers, that's 3 points for white people!" Well, maybe you see it that way, but I don't.

I don't think he actually stereotyped black rappers in line with the kinda video's he mentioned, he just said that's how hip hop on tv is these days.
which is true.

Dude, what the fuck is your problem? You're 27 according to your profile, but you act like you're three. You rarely have anything positive to say. You need some love, huh?

I knew some people out there would take it the wrong way, but it's made me aware of other rap artists that use a bit of intelligence when they create music. I am just sick of the commercial crap and am bored of watching video's that mean nothing, I'm sick of the PC brigade out there and you can't have a proper debate anymore with someone calling you racists. Hell the beastis took all sorts of crap from black rap artists when they first came out, saying that they couldn't rap, I know I was there at the begining!

I'm not saying you hate black people or anything, I'm just saying you have serious flaws in your way of thinking. You're catagorizing all types of people into two groups and then making sweeping assumptions about all of those people based on the group you put them in. It ain't about being PC, its about being logical.
You're defeding your position that its okay for you to critisize "black rappers" in general because the Beasties "took all sorts of crap from black rap artists when they first came out". It certainly wasn't ALL black rap artists. It was individuals. So what's the problem with naming who it was who gave the Beasties a hard time? What's the point of trying to generalize? What about the majority of black rap artists who didn't give the beasties flack for being white? What about Run DMC, LL, Public Enemy, NWA, etc. Why do you have lump them in with the assholes? Because it just so happens that their skin is the same color? That's illogical. And even if ALL black rappers did diss the Beasties for being white, does that mean its okay for you to do the same thing?
Can you even begin to explain why it matters whether the beasties are better than "black rappers"? If not, what's the purpose of getting into skin color at all?
You obviously don't see it this way (probably because you're not a person of color,) but your post is incinuating that "black rappers" aren't as good as the Beastie Boys, and that their videos are wack and that they aren't as intelligent. How is a black person not supposed to take this the "wrong way?"
Shit ain't about the "PC brigade" homey, its about being logical and keeping from getting your ass beat to a pulp for insulting somebody based on their skin color.

Again I'm not trying to demonize you or say you are a racist, but its the way you come off when you make those types of statements. I'm not angry, I just want to be clear that I think you should revisit the way you think about these issues. Whether you like it or not, people are going to take that sort of thing the wrong way and that's not productive when its not your intention. In the future, just leave race out of it and stick to the main point of your argument: commercial rap is weak as fuck in 2006.(y)

Sir - I'm not on here to watch every word I say. I put it out for discussion you either like it or you don't. If you don't like it don't read it. I have my freedom of expression and so do you - I don't agree with what you said but hey that's life!
