Why so expensive last-minute? Is it just to encourage people to buy early? And what's so great about them buying early? Assurance that their flight will be full?
Either way, if Brett were to buy his ticket today, for August 18th, it would cost $1,128 roundtrip. What the hell, mang?

Have you tried priceline.com? I booked three trips with them, all recent, and one to a fairly obscure place with several connection points and to a tiny airport, and was always able to get a huge discount with them. For the one trip, USAir wanted something like $600 (with two connections) and priceline gave it to me (direct) for $180. The obscure destination wasn't so cheap but it was cheaper than going through the airlines.

No, no. We already bought them, for about half the price of what it is today. We got them on Friday and I've just been watching them rise in price, and I wonder why they're skyrocketing so fast. You think they'd lower them to get rid of the seats? I dunno.
And what's wrong with Northwest? They're the only airline I've used, I thought they were good. Unless you're referring to their almost-strike, that I'm not sure is going on still.

No, we got them for much cheaper. Just saying TODAY, on united's website, it's really expensive. Don't know why.

yeah unannounced strikes starting the 25th. Flight attendants just wont show up and such.

If it's unannounced, how do you know it starts on the 25th?

meaning effective that day on certain flights they'll show up for work, load the plane up, then strike without giving indication beforehand as to which flights and when.

Isn't that a form of terrorism? Not the serious kind, but still disruptive. I wonder if they'll have stand-by scabs or anything.
The Notorious LOL
08-15-2006, 01:44 PM
of course its disruptive. Thats the point of a strike.
and it would be pretty much impossible to scab at every airport for every flight possible and pay a crew to wait onsite in case they just walk off.
wait..is this just certain airlines or across the board?
as long as its taken care of by september....i say let em strike.

I tend to get lucky with flights on cheaptickets, airtran is really cheap as well. Tickets for London are really cheap now..
The Notorious LOL
08-15-2006, 01:55 PM
yeah AirTran aka Air Greyhound is cheap but you get what you pay for.
And the strike is just NWA flights. I hope they do strike. Northwest is a terrible company.

Well, yeah. My point is, doesn't that fall under the textbook definition of terrorism? Not that they have the same targets or that they're even on the same wavelength in any way, just that they both intend to disrupt their economy because it'll help their agenda. Just some parallels I see.

He should walk 10,000 miles to see you.
Then buy you a $1000 dinner.
wouldn't that make everyone who goes on strike for any reason, ever, a terrorist?
The worst is American Airlines...at least in my experience. They canceled two flights of mine on the same day and the first flight was canceled due to weather in chicago, but when we go to the other airport...they had a flight going to chicago at the same exact time that we originally were supposed to. There is a lot more to it than that...but yeah...fuck American Airlines.
Although we did get $300 worth of vouchers from them since I bitched about their service so much. But now im stuck traveling with them again.

That's my point. Not terrorist in the respect that we've come to know it as today, but in that they terrorize their specific targets. And no, I'm not putting them on the same page as Al Qaeda or any of those other dispicable organizations, at all. Just saying the textbook definition of terrorism is kinda like striking.

yeah and the first song I heard on it during takeoff was "free fallin", followed by that "the day the music died" song about Richie Valens and the Big Bopper dying in a plane crash...swear to god. It annoyed me.

That reminds me of the time I got rear-ended very badly, I was listening to "I hope you die" by Bloodhound Gang. And then when I got in another fender bender, it was Wallflower's "One headlight." And those were the only accidents I've been in.

I assume that tickets get more expensive closer to the day because it's more likely that people are making last-minute travel plans and are willing or able to get gouged.
There's also bereavement rates for (near-) death-in-the-family; about half price if there's a note from the attending physician.

Thats what you get for listening to shitty songs....well one shitty song...I haven't heard the other.
That also reminds me of a time in high school when a friend of mine ran away from home so we all decided that we were just going to drop him off in front of his house and throw him out of the car (he ran away for something really dumb). and some ozzy song came on the radio the one with the chorus that goes something like "Mama, Im Coming Hoooooome".

Prices for airline tickets usually go through the roof within two weeks of departure. The only people who fly on such short notice are business people who have someone else paying the ticket and desperate people who will pay whatever it costs. If I need to fly last minute, that's when I try to do a rulebuster with my frequent flyer miles. It's what I did when I decided to see a concert at the last minute in NYC.
