Ok, time to vote. Which track is the best when used as the first (intro) track on a BBoys record?
My vote has to go to Shake Your Rump, it's a classic intro!

I thought 'To All The Girls' was the "intro" track on Paul's Boutique?
Anyway, Jimmy James gets my vote, but only just, its tough competition!

True. But I was thinking more of the actual songs. To all the girls doesn't count as such in my book, you won't see me singing the lyrics in the shower anyhow...

and time to get ill, that's a good one too (!)
best intro, to all the girls, there we go.

I voted for "Jimmy James", but I like the music video/single version of the song better. I like the scratching and the other effects that were in that version.

Rhymin' & Stealin' is so cool
It really is. I was at this warehouse furniture sale in downtown la. Only open to designers and stuff, so there was all the hip kids in town there to pick up furniture classics for a good price and well, I live for this event lemme say. So I'm running through the warehouse to find my pieces I want, throwin a chair over my shoulder so no one steals it from me and such, and all of a sudden, BOOMIN outta the sound system came Rhymin' & Stealin'. That intro hit and I got goose bumps. :o I'm such a nerd.

The answer is Jimmy James and I'll tell you why. Its the one track (from your list) that actually sets up the rest of the album perfectly.
The reason they picked up instruments for the CYH album is because they were inspired from the music they were sampling back in the PB days. Jimmy James sets the tone for check your head.

In mathematical terms, if Paul's Boutique is their greatest album, and To All the Girls IS Paul's; To All The Girls is the greatest intro.

"Jimmy James" was completely unlike any Beastie Boys song I ever heard before. The beat was so...not Beastie Boys, that it caught my attention. It was both an unusual, and yet perfect way to open Check Your Head.

Ima have to go with Sure Shot. But "Super Disco Breakin" "Check It Out an Jimmy James would be a tie".

Well, I don't know if it looks like Mike D and Adrock haven't showered, but yeah, MCA's got that whole dirty/scruffy look going full blast. And his hair is green.
I love the video too. It's in my all time Top 5.
I'll never forget the first time I listened to Check Your Head. When that bassline started, I was like, "Whoa. This is different." And then once the drums kicked in, I was like, "Okay. I feel it. I'm feeling it!"
Their voices sound loud and crisp and clear in the song. That's another thing I like about "Jimmy James". They sound so full of energy, Yauch especially. I love the tag team back and forth rapping, and when they do the background vocals. It just goes so well with the music. It's one of the best examples of the Beastie Boys famous "finish each other's sentences" style of rap.

I went with Jimmy James because ...to all the girls is the intro track, and hitching the next track onto it ain't kosher.
Otherwise, if it were a straight-up ballot between Shake Your Rump and Jimmy James, I'm not sure which I'd pick.

I think the "Jimmy James" video was filmed for about $100...and the $100 was only to paid the women who danced in the video. I think either that or "Hold It Now, Hit It" is the cheapest video they've ever done.
That's part of the reason I like it though. I like the DIY aspect of the video. Sometimes it's good to be low budget.

if most of the money went to the girls dancing in the video then fuck was that a waste of money i liked everything of that video except the girls dancing
they just made it cheesy
i'm not saying the video is cheesy just the girls dancing part
yea jimmy james is great i love the ending sound effect its a great way to finish a great song

See, I've never found the girls dancing in the "Jimmy James" video to be cliche or cheesy or unoriginal like I do in some rap videos these days.
Probably because all the dancing was done in silhouette...and maybe because they were dancing to a really good song too!
And if you want to overanalyze the video, you could say that the women
dancing wasn't used just to make the video sexy, but as another reference to Jimi Hendrix since he did a song called "Foxy Lady", and one of his albums was called Electric Ladyland. Considering that the song itself is a tribute to Hendrix, and there's some Hendrix footage edited into the video, AND the fact that the footage of that train going through the subway could be a reference to Hendrix's song "Hear My Train A Coming'", the ladies dancing sorta makes sense if you look at it as a Jimi Hendrix reference.

I voted for Super Disco Breakin' because how it starts and "Well it's 50 cups of coffee and you know it's on..." with the beat and everything, that song just gets me so hyped. Jimmy James is right with it though, I really love that one. Fuck it, I vote for 'em all. :D

Here you go my good man! The "Jimmy James" music video in its entirety (God bless YouTube)!
Don't feel so ashamed. I didn't know until last year. It was the third single from Check Your Head. It came out before "Gratitude" back in August 1992. It wasn't played alot though. Only a little bit on MTV and BET. It wasn't on the Video Anthology, for reasons I don't know.

HHmm, maybe the trio felt the video was too cheap? =/

The funny thing is that "Something's Gotta Give" got included in the anthology, even though I don't think that video was ever played on any channel.
And I doubt it was because it was too cheap. They've done low budget stuff before. It's part of their charm.
"Jimmy James" was probably the easiest music video they've ever done though. Making the music video probably involved the following:
1.) Grab a camcorder
2.) Grab a boombox
3.) Grab a copy of "Jimmy James (Original Version)"
4.) Head to a park (I think)
5.) Put copy of "Jimmy James (Original Version)" inside boombox.
6.) Press play.
7.) Lip synch.
Then afterwards, there's editing it all together, splicing in the subway footage and the Jimi Hendrix footage, and finding the women to dance to the music, which was probably the only thing they had to spend money for that video! :D There's no special effects, no comedy, no going to different locations. Just three guys rapping at a park. You could make your own version of "Jimmy James" at home with your friends!

I think that's how most of their best videos were done. Yauch's a genious like that. I think inbetween steps 4 and 5 though should be...
