Minorities rise in most US states

Immigrants and Hispanics no longer just work in agriculture
Minority groups make up an increasing share of the population in almost every US state, according to figures released by the US Census Bureau.

Legal and illegal immigrants make up a growing portion of the population in 46 states and the District of Columbia, with California leading the field. There are more than 35 million immigrants in the US - or 12.4% of the population, up from 11.1% in 2001.

There's a lot of immigration in my neck of the woods, just because of location. I can understand why some of them are illegal though, because the US says they have an "open door policy with secure borders" which is bullshit. Their immigration policies are extremely strict and in order to get someone in legally, you have to marry them or pay $1300 in fees for a lottery, or they can just squat here and not work. What ever happened to the days where EVERYONE was an immigrant? And that everyone came over from Europe in search of a better life? They just completely shut the doors it seems like. (n)
