US professor Barry Popkin said all countries - both rich and poor - had failed to address the obesity boom.

He told the International Association of Agricultural Economists the number of overweight people had topped 1bn, compared with 800m undernourished.

Speaking at an Australian conference, he said changing diets and people doing less physical exercise was the cause.

Professor Popkin, from the University of North Carolina, said that the change had happened quickly as obesity was rapidly spreading, while hunger was slowly declining among the world's 6.5bn population.

We could feed the obese to the undernourished, maybe.

Speaking at an Australian conference, he said changing diets and people doing less physical exercise was the cause. It kills me when I see articles/tips in the gym featuring the SECRETS TO LOSING WEIGHT AND KEEPING IT OFF. #1 is usually "eat fewer calories" and #2 is usually "increase your physical activity." (lb)

I was travelling with someone recently who hasn't travelled outside of the U.S. much. He's just a couple of years older than I am, so you'd think he'd know this, but as we were walking around, he said something like, "People here are thinner than where I live." and it was true at least in the parts where we where. It always strikes me whenever I travel outside of the U.S.

You rarely see a fat old person, where old is, say, >65. (lb) (lb)

I still doubt it

you can be average weight and be undernourished (ie: bulimics)

That's bullshit. 3 billion people live in the world on under one (us) dollar a day. That's pretty undernourishing.
