I actually replied back even though I've never played the lottery. I just wanted to see what kind of scam it is and what kind of info they'd request. So far, they sent me a verification form. All it asks for is the ticket numbers, my phone number, home address, email address and a scanned copy of my driver's license or any form of I.d.

Question is, do they honestly believe people will fall for this?

I work in combating financial crime in the UK so we see a lot of these frauds, I interviewed a person who sent these out for a living, and he said that for every 100 he sends out, he gets about 30 replies and about 5 will end up handing over money - there are a lot of stupid people out there.

The sadest ones are those which target lonely single people (mostly men), pretending to fall in love online and then getting them to send money, mostly the victims are too embarrassed to report it but it goes on quite a lot.
