remember them? they were a big thing around 2002. anyway, i was looking at some stuff because i was bored. and how they were talking about how pictures of really skinny girls "trigger" eating disorders in women.
i dunno, i look at them and it makes me feel better about myself, cos i eat what i want and don't have an exercise regime and i'm happy with my body, and they aren't. why would i want to be like that?
anyway, yes. this thread needs a point i suppose. so what do you think?

Wait, there were PRO-anorexia websites? That's so sad.
I have two bulemic friends who were trying to get better and didn't know each other, so I thought it'd be a good idea to introduce the two of them since I thought the path of recovery would be easier if they had someone else to lean on and knew what they were going through every step of the way.
Wrong. They got more and more competative with each other, who could exercise more, who could have the least amount of total calories at the end of the day, who lost more weight, etc. It was terrible. One went into rehab a few years ago, the other is in rehab now and doing great. I'm so proud of her. :)
Either way, it's a terrible thing and I don't know how people can see themselves in SUCH a bad light. They all think they're ugly and fat. I visited my one friend recently at rehab and saw an 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL there. It made me want to cry.

i saw a documentary on this recently, and the british girls were talking about "pro-ani" websites. they have idols on there like victoria beckham and nicole richie - top 10 reasons they are beautiful: 1. their gorgeous protuding collarbones, etc etc.
if i wasn't at work i'd look it up!

see that's the thing. how can that encourage any girl to want to be thin? it encourages me to keep eating pizza and chocolate and not worry about it.

Pretty intense thoses who want to be skinny like a tooth pick!
The documentary i saw once was showing why and how a girl was dealing with this mental disease. She had major self esteem issues , by controling her body, she was regaining a sense of power over her misery life .
She finally did get out of it for a bit then had a relapse and finally died...
Thoses girl lose their theeth, hair... no more fuel in their body, they just start to decompose faster . Anyway, thoses web sites should not be existants! What a way to polluate the mind of young and innocent girls.
I am wandering if boy suffer this disease too?

Anorexia's a disease people without it won't understand, I still don't. Their ideas of beauty are incredibly off, and their perceptions are shite. I know that a lot of anorexic girls will look at fatter girls and see them as prettier as themselves, and they'll look at skinnier girls as a goal to work towards. They don't see "Hey, fatter girl is prettier than me. I should gain weight and look like her," they think "Hey, that girl is pretty, if I want to be pretty I need to lose weight."
It's really fucked up inside their heads.

i was one of those girls once. it started when i was 14. but i never looked at pictures like that to "trigger" me.
QueenAdrock
08-18-2006, 09:31 AM
Do they do it on purpose to set off the trigger or did it just happen unintentionally?

i don't think that necessarily the pictures trigger. i think they motivate.
and the websites are just communities of similar thinking people who exist to motivate each other, too. like weight watchers, but the opposite!
