First 3 albums are all classics. Grind Date was solid. Don't care about the albums inbetween.

I almost approached it differently, though. What I really wanted to say is I can't stand any of those other albums. Particularly STAKES IS HIGH.

My personal favorite album was "De La Soul Is Dead". It was deeper than 3 Feet, IMO.

Grind Date was a sick album, best track was Rock Co.Kane flow with MF Doom...his verses were great.

Stakes is tied with Buhloone as my least favorite. Both are good albums, though.

I saw these guys live a couple years back, and got a chance to chat with them for a bit. Really down to earth, laid back. Had some interesting views on the state of hip hop.

Buhloone Mindstate is a classic. It's probably got more in common with Grind Date than it does the first two albums, though.

De La Soul is great cuz they were always humble about how they approached their music. De La Soul is Dead is their best and yeah, Grind Date was very solid. Every De La album is good though.

Agreed, Rock Co.Kane Flow is indeed ill. I'm sure most have seen it, but if you ain't:

His first verse is one of the sickest in history, IMO. However, I jock DOOM pretty hard:p ;) (y) :

From the top of the key, for 3, Villain
Been on in the game as long as you can wheelie your Schwinn
Turn the corner spinnin, bust that ass and get up
Dust off the mask, whoever laugh give him a head up
He got jumped, it pumped his adrenaline
He said it made him tougher than a bump of raw medicine
To write all night long, the hourglass is still slow
Flow from Hellborn to Free Power like Wilco
And still owe bills, pay dues forever
Slay huge when it comes to who's more cleverer
Use to wore a leather goose ski with a fur collar
Hand charged a fee for loose leaf words for dollar
Ya heard? Holla - broad or dude, we need food
Eat your team for sure, the streets sure seem rude
For fam like the Partridges, pardon me for the mix-up
Battle for your Atari cartridges or put your kicks up
It's a stick up

Being that it doesnt have a hundred skits? I think the similarities end there. Hate it all you want, but Grind Date is of a piece with Bionix moreso than it is any other De La album

I'm still waiting for AOI Part 3. When I asked them when it would drop, Pos said "late next year". I saw them in the fall of '04.

He said it would be a DJ album, primarily. But would have a couple songs with them rhyming.

The perfect introduction to De La is their 1989 debut album (featuring Q-Tip, from Tribe) 3 Feet High And Rising. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000000HHE/sr=8-1/qid=1156060908/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-3612694-0149653?ie=UTF8)

Erm. For a girl I would say 'All Good' is the track that I would go for. Chaka Kahn is on it.

Yeah, you know us girls. We can't appreciate hip-hop unless there's a Chaka Khan hook in it.
I'm only on this board because I'm waiting for her to collaborate with Mike and the Adams, you know.

I bought Three Feet a couple months ago & really like it.

After track 2 ended it was like "wow, this is some fun stuff. no talk about women's asses or fighting with cops." And after the first few seconds of Jenifa Taught Me, the first thing that popped into my mind was the opening sequence for the TV show "In Living Color".

And hearing that Steely Dan sample (from the song "Peg" (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002P4R/sr=1-1/qid=1156131485/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-2060702-4325655?ie=UTF8&s=music)) on Eye Know surprised me (in a good way).

BTW: i've never seen anyone mention this in any threads about this album but just in case you don't know: at least in the stores down here, the CD version of this album sold now includes a bonus CD with 14 remix/b-side tracks on it (it's not even listed in the Windows Media player data base). Some of the songs are just O.K., some are good and several are really good.

**********************************************
Audio nerd FYI: this version may be remastered, but like most albums that use lots of samples, overall sound quality just isn't that good. There's a good reason for this though. From what I've learned from the pro recording boards, all those samples can vary so wildly in quality that if the sound of the rest of the album (the parts played by De La Soul themselves) was as good as the best sounding *samples*, when the not-so-good sounding samples came along i.e. from old cassettes or worn LPs they would stick out like a sore thumb. Kind of like wearing a nice suit & loafers but wearing white tube socks with them: all is fine until you cross your legs, then your pant leg pulls up and.....bleh! Other examples of albums recorded like this are Paul's Boutique and Endtroducing.

Yeah I got the bonus CD also, good stuff. And we get another Jeff track. If I'm not mistaken Jeff is Dave's (Trugoy) cousin. He was featured on the track "The Sauce" on AOI: Bionix as "Philly Black".
