About 2,000 children were murdered in the United States in 1996, and JonBenet's just seemed like one of those star cases centering on an affluent white family because they made better tabloid fodder.

But stories like the JonBenet Ramsey murder case tell us a lot about how we judge others and why. Individuals, pundits, parenting groups, crime "experts", the always voracious media, pounced on the story -- misinformation and all -- with gusto.

The identity of her killer is still unknown, but Wednesday, Boulder District Attorney Mary Lacy announced that Karr, 41, a second-grade teacher from Georgia, had been taken into custody. While he's yet to produce a written confession, and there's a possibility he's troubled enough to orally confess to a crime he didn't commit, Karr has told authorities he didn't mean to kill JonBenet and that he was in love with her. Feel free to shudder.

But several details in Karr's story don't add up.

hurry with the poll... But I don't think he did it, for several reasons:

One, his wife at the time was with him in Alabama while JonBenet was being murdered

Two, it was far from an accident. Blunt force trauma to the head and a deliberate strangulation by wire and hairbrush...

Three, he was busted for other charges in Thailand, charges that carried a life sentance with no chance for parole. Addmitting to a high profile murder in front of the american embassy reps was an easy way to get out of Thailand.

I agree, this is a trip that the investigators would even let the media know about Karr, it's reaching and ugly. Unless the strategy was to let Mrs. Ramsey die in peace, then once again focus on the parents...or more sharply on the father.

Just speculation, but to open up old wounds on an international scale with such a skeptical arrest seems odd.

Too soon for me to hazard any judgement. Will be interesting to see how this plays out, though.

I think that this was a highly unusual case that was mishandled from the get go, and we'll never know for sure.

I think that the only way this guy could be found guilty is if they found his skin and blood under her nails.

Sounds like he didn't do it to me. Maybe he's just trying to get media attention for some sick reason, or maybe he subconsciously wants to be punished for what he DID do. He creeps me out though.

This Karr guy gives everybody the creeps. The creepier thing is the investigation and impending court case just seems to be an attention grab for everybody.

I feel creepy just making this post. It's a fucked up situation, they better have the goods on this Karr fuck.

They said he had described things that werent released publicly. such as what the staircase looked like in the house and in depth descriptions about the basement where she was found.

That or he just confessed knowing that he WILL have sex when he gets put in prison
