but apparently not like some do.

So, I'm talking with a friend and his girlfriend the other night. Both of them are pretty hard core Catholics. I'm a Catholic, but only on paper, really. We got on the subject of relationships and I mentioned how yeah, I'd like to meet a nice girl etc. Well, they repeatedly tell me about how God will play a role in this. Mostly to the effect of "If you live right, be positive, God will give you the things you want." Now, I'm all for being positive but I disagree with the rest.

I guess I see God as more as a governing force in the universe; an energy binding everything, not some guy who is going to reward me for "being good" with all the crazy shit I desire. I like to think that I earned everything I have. If I meet a nice girl it's because I'm charming, funny and attractive. Not because I go to church every Sunday (which I don't) or am nice to old people.

So its like karma?

Ask them whats the deal with dinosaurs. If god made everything in 7 days, with the creation of man and animals on the 6th day, then when were the dinosaurs kicking about? That always messes up religious people.

i believe in God, but not for once second to i believe this divine intervention nonsense. People who do i always ask them what did innocent babies in Africa do to deserve being born with AIDS.

believing that God has control of your life is just plain lazy.

I'm Methodist and I consider myself a halfway decent Christian. It kind of weirds me out though when people say that blessings we get are from God and if we have any troubles God will help us through it. It says in the Bible that "God will not protect us from the fire but will walk through it with us." So what's with everybody saying that God will help us out, if you need a job God won't magically deliver one to you, you have to get up and find one. I guess what I'm saying is that things we get in life are our own doing whether they be good or bad. If God just helped us with every little thing it wouldn't really be life. Thanks for listening to my rant (y)
