You got to be kidding me.
FDA says viruses safe for treating meat! (http://www.physorg.com/news75124306.html) Maybe I will become a vegetarian!!!(lb)
(AP) -- A mixture of six bacteria-killing viruses can be safely sprayed on meat and poultry to combat common microbes that kill hundreds of people a year, federal health officials said Friday.
Hundreds of people?? How about some fucking standards for food instead?

That has to be the most rampantly sensationalistic, ill-thought-out thing I've read today.

yeah.. i admit, i was a bit overexcited when i posted this. i just can't see how spraying food with viruses is safer than regulating the meat that gets sold to people. i am open to the idea that this is a good thing.
here's another article on it. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/18/edible.virus.ap/index.html

those articles are basically verbatim
many people have that bacterial species in their intestinal track and suffer no ill effects
this is mainly an issue for immunocompromised individuals so using this method on ALL processed foods seems ridiculous and wasteful, especially if e. coli incidents are way way more common and can harm even completely healthy persons
I read about some other cases and they were caused by people eating infected colesaw and soft cheese, so not just processed meats
Im not a fan of bringing people into excessive contact with any viral based vaccine or preventative measure due to virus's rampant mutation rates.
I forsee them coming up with a first batch of this viral spray and then having to spend even more money revamping the mix due to the bacteria building up an immunity in the same way that many antibiotics become useless when overused or misused by our general retarded paranoid hypochondriac public
