I was sitting around today thinking about questions i could ask the beasties that no one probably has before (or that we have heard) and i thought of a really good one. Feel free to weigh in on this....
If it wasnt for Licensed to Ill do you think you could have lasted as a group?
If so, which album do you think would have allowed them to become successful. (without the help of a video, cause they wouldnt have been known before hand)
I think they wouldnt have been known until 1994 (minus the new york locals) You know how pauls boutique wasnt successful when it came out and that was even with licensed to ill before it.
I also think check your head wouldnt have helped raised them to superstardem. I think it would have been a album you may hear every once in a while on a college radio show or new york local rap station.
I think Ill communication would have been the first hit record. I think sure shot and sabotage would have been imbraced by the "popular" fans. I think thats even pushing it. If those two songs didnt do it, Intergalactic would have done it for sure in 98.
I know its hard to think about this, but seriously, where the fuck would they be without the licensed to ill album? I know they would have been making music just for fun anyways.
I mean lets face it, to the basic music fan, people know the beasties from the licensed to ill era more so than any other era.
Thank God for Licensed to Ill!
I think mike D was 100% correct when he said something like "we just came out at the right time."
