It was late and I was watching "The Making of Almost Famous" and some guy said in his interview,

"Whatever music you listened to from age 16-24 is the music you will like for the rest of your life!"

What do you think of that, BBMB?

Not quite, but it varies. Interests come and go, when it comes to bands. Some music leaves a larger impact on you than others. That is what I think stays with you for a long time, if not for your whole life.

It's looking like that'll be the case with me. I might listen to other types of music eventually, but what I like now, I think I'll like forever.

That's bollocks cuz my older brother and sister (who are nearly 30) are still changing and adapting their musical tastes. My sister's boyfriend, who used to be a complete hip-hop nut, has "grown out of it" now and doesn't listen to any hip hop any more except for ATCQ.

It's pretty true, I'd say.

My dad came of age in the '60s and the stuff he likes the best, without a shadow of a doubt, was during the mid-to-late-60s. Of course, he enjoys the stuff that came before -- and after -- but you can't get him enthusiastic over music quite the same way as the stuff recorded between 1964-1969.

This isn't to say that you won't be interested in other things as you grow older, but you'll probably look back at these years with a special fondness.

I'm 34 now and i'm still finding new music that i know will stay with me forever. I suppose it depends how much you're really into music. I find i have a particular fondness for music that brings certain memories with it, but thats an ongoing thing.

I enjoy new music, and my tastes are varying. But I am sure I will be still listening to hip-hop aged 50.

I cannot stop listening to Will Smith. Every other song is Will Smith to class up the sound. Every other song than Will Smith is Limp Bizkit.

Well I just turned 16 and I'm always picking up on new stuff but what I started listening to when I turned 15 is what I think will go down as my favorites. I'll never forget when I started listening to the Beatles, Sgt. Peppers and the White album made my jaw hit the floor. :)

I'll be fucking damned if I roll over and play dead and just settle for any/all bands I've enjoyed from 16 up until I was 24 years old. What a load of horse crap that theory is. Well, that's what I think anyhoo.

I wonder if they mean actual songs and records that we liked then or whether they mean that we'll always like music that sounds like that. I suppose it's the first one.

Nothing could be further from the truth in my case. When I look at my old vinyl and see the crap I spent good money on, and then think about all the hours I wasted camping out on the street to get into shows by lame rock bands . . . .

I suspect that most people just quit buying music and going to concerts when they turn 25. And as I said before, most people don't even have their own taste in their early 20s -- they go to concerts because their friends are going -- they don't have a real relationship with music.
