I just got offered a job at a new company

and they gave me a pretty decent offer, but I did counter back asking for a few more dollars and an extra week's vacation. The woman seemed a bit irritated, but I was always taught that you always negotiate if what they offer you isn't exactly what you want.

How many of you do the same or do you always take the offer on the spot without any further negotiating?

you'll probably get what you want moneywise. the vacation thing might be according to seniority? i got $8000 more than was offered by negotiating. never take a first offer.

For my most recent job, I named my salary and also requested an unspecified amount for moving expenses (wound up getting enough to move plus pay for deposit and first month's rent plus buy some furiture and furnishings). (y)

Most of the places where I've worked did not have the ability to negotiate on salary or vacation.

I could have negotiated my salary, but they had already offered $3,000 more than what I was expecting so I was just like "SHIT YEAH!"
