View Full Version : The end of music snobbery?
I was watching this thing the other day, and someone said something to the effect of "this band will probably be discovered years from now as a gem..." and another person replied "No. That doesn't happen anymore, not with the internet and the way music is spread and shared."
So - I wondered this: are we witnessing the demise of the music elitist? When everyone can get most anything at the click of a mouse, does that start to get rid of the sense of pride collectors have in finding a rare album?
Your thoughts.

people just abandon stuff quicker and move on to the next thing, which just makes for short attention spans.

I agree with that. It's depressing, but quite true.

the great thing about this day in age is that all those undiscovered bands can get their music out there. However, the downside is that all those undiscovered bands can get their music out there.

About the only thing the Internet is really good for is..............not much really.
If it "turned off" tomorrow I would care less.
(I could add a lot more ranting to this but it would be really off topic)

i still like it when i find an old rare album or 45. im weird, lots of people have tons of burned cd's and i dont like em, i have no good reson why, i just dont. it still dosnt feel like i have the real thing (which is kinda true). same goes for records for me, sure i can find a break or sample online, but when you have the real thing its just so cool. man i love music!

As long as there's still vanity, we'll still have the music elitist -- always trying to find the artist(s) who are so underground or underappreciated or obscure or whatever.
Some artists are elitists, too. I'm sure there are people out there who vow never to record because it spoils the purity of the musical experience.

Thats me, 'cept I'll record, I'm putting the finishing touches on the album right now in my basement. One copy will be pressed on virgin vinyl, released August 29th and put directly into my vault.
It's a tribute album to Elvis.

Good call. Sounds like those tribesman who don't want their picture taken because it steals their soul or something. ;)
Man, I'm the exact opposite. I like to sing along and listen to a buddy strum as much as the next guy, but I get really excited about recording. Not because I really want to sell it or anything, I just enjoy the act of doing it.

I experience the most snobbery from people with a broad knowledge of music. But that snobbery is more related to distinguished tastes.
