Man, before I left Florida I had a root canal. I was leaving to soon for them to cap it properly, so they put a temporary filling in it. They told me to get it capped in 3 weeks. It's been a month now.

This board went to shit years ago. There's a handful of people here who contribute valid posts. The rest seem intent on spamming the board with endless meaningless, retarded threads. As I just logged on, I looked down the list of threads, and one guy was the last poster in EVERY single thread. It's not like he'd contributed anything useful to the threads - most of the posts were random one-line comments or just smilies. 95% of the posts in 'General Beastie Boys Discussion' ought to be in 'Frequent Post Archive' in my opinion.

I'm also going to criticise the moderation, or rather, lack of it. Have the mods just given up? This is the slackest, most badly-run music forum I know. Which is a shame because you'd think a band with the stature of the Beastie Boys would have a well-run, respectable message board. Take echoingthesound.org (the main NIN forum) for example: This is a great example of a well-run, informative band forum. Posting a thread on something which has already been covered previously results in the thread being locked, all random and general questions must be posted in the SAME thread (this avoids a million stupid threads appearing). And there is a dedicated team of moderators there to enforce the rules round the clock. A forum of this size requires 24/7 moderation. That fake post about the 'AIFST promo DVD' was here for about two days before the moderators noticed!

In all I guess there are about 10-15 people on here whose posts I value (most of them old-school heads from alt.music.beastie-boys), the rest can just FO&D as far as i'm concerned, they've been allowed (by the moderators) to turn this into the kind of forum you'd expect a band like ICP to have. I'm a regular on a few other music forums, and compared to those, this place is just downright embarrasing. It's like illiterate 12-year-olds are running the place.

Sometimes I feel like buying a domain and starting a separate forum for real discussion, with a built-in torrent tracker for trading of live/rare material. If anyone is with me on this, i'm ready to do it.

In my opinion, the lax moderation creates an atmosphere for all to enjoy. It reflects the good-nature and lightheartedness of the band, too. The NIN board might be well-run, but I bet it's not as much fun as this one. You can tell that cool people do a good job for a cool band. It escapes a lot of internet cliche in that sense.

I wouldn't be worried about valuing posts, either. Do you expect anybody to value yours? It's just words, man.

yo....alt board represent......i thought me, gwedo and (cough) space/mute were the only ones here from alt.......i couldn't of said this better myself.....i agree this site's a circus.....but, i'm not gonna rag on the mods......cuz i wouldn't want the job......you can't expect too much from the mods of a board the band itself doesn't even visit, promote or keep up to date.....if it wasn't for beastiemania or miranmee's site we wouldn't know what the fuck was up......

as far as bf goes.....this past year the beasties did a lot of things (sgh, aifst, aifst appearances/shows, their own radio show).....a few bf'ers came over to bg to shoot the shit about it.......but, most heads in bf didn't even bat an eyelash to those events.....the beasties are doing a live radio show and someone in bf is posting about their pet hamster dying......its like, why the fuck are you here......

Look man, if someone wants to love the Beasties and close their ears to other music or bad words about the Beasties then that's their buisness. it's a fucking messageboard for a big band, of course you're gonna get fans like that. Posting a thread isn't gonna change it, particulary when some of your points are a little naieve.

I mean finding out info about the Beasties...if someone wasn't around when certian things happened then what's wrong with looking them up? Beastiemania's got lots of shit going on, and if someones interested in the Beasties to check out sites like that to find out things they didn't know...well my point is it's the logical thing to do for some people.

And besides, even if people were about at different periods in the Beasties career, some of what they learn would've come from reports and interviews etc anyway, but most would be their own personal opinions and views based on what they've seen and heard (either on record or live), be it lyrics, music or what not.

If some fans are just spouting what they've read of Beastiemania then they probably agree with it or are usuing it as something which supports their view on something (e.g. their love for the Beastie Boys), and I see no problem with that.

Also, even though most of those threads are made by 13-16 year olds, they have to have good taste in music to even be here. They could be big 50 cent or eminem fans, but they chose the beasties.

okay yeah, maybe you have a point there, but i dont see it that way, i find some really cool info on here, and even if the posts are kind of cheesy and made by 16 yr olds...they're still sort of fun to read.

And i have noticed that lately the discussion board has been filled with a lot of pointless junk, but i think it's only because there's a lot of people that don't know much about the beastie boys, like the younger fans, and they come on here looking for answers...in many cases you just have to be patient with them....
