So I went to the Hollywood Bowl last night to see Jose Gonzalez, Zero 7 and Gotan Project. I've complained about the bowl before. While is a true Los Angeles treasure, it sucks. People are allowed to bring in food and drinks to their seats. Not uncommon to see the ice chests, picnic baskets, and hundreds of bottles of wine. Ahhhh, and under the stars. So romantic! If you don't mind everyone freaking talking during all of the songs and performers. People standing up on their cell phones to turn around and wave to their friends while Sia is singing. Jerks. I can no longer go to that venue.
And cell phones have ruined most concert going experiences. No? Before was talking. Now the jerkoff next to you has to flip open the brightest screen ever to text someone who was to cheap to buy a ticket or doesn't care that they are at the concert omgbbq! The drunk chick in front of us kept texting everyone and lit up 10 seats all around. I was going to say something but the guy next to me had his blackberry out to make sure he didn't miss any Myspace updates.
Bitter and old? What happened to actually listening to most of the concert and only talking to your friends next to you to say "Hello yes, this is awesome!" "Pass me the weed" "Mike D is so skinny!" "Parking is going to be hell to get out of!"

I feel ya. Cellphones are the new lighters at concerts, and people in general should just be lined up and shot at close range.

But at least lighters have that soft warm glow.
Cell screens are light flashlights.

I can't wait until the general self-esteem of the population improves so people don't have to compensate by treating the world as their own personal space. (y)

oh man, i'm way bitterer and older than you are.
i hate being in the vacinity of most people that move, make noises and do any normal human stuff. i would very much prefer to be at a concert surrounded by a bunch of dead people, or robots that have been turned off.

yeah I find the cell phone thing happens a lot. However, people have conversations with each other anyway. I hate hate hate when people right in front of me decide to try and have a conversation and yell loudly to do so while I'm trying to listen to the god damned music. I try to carry small hard candies to throw at their heads to get them to shut up.

If it's loud enough, the people can't use their cell phones, which was pretty sweet for the indoor Beastie concert in 2004.
People with cells piss me off everywhere. There was some foreign douchebag with a booming voice screaming in an African language into a cell phone this morning on the Metro, when everyone else was silent and trying to read the paper. I was standing up, so I had the entertainment of seeing everyone's expressions. No one said anything, but one bald white dude to his right kept clearing his throat and glaring at the guy, and the woman in front of him kept closing her eyes really tightly and clenching her jaw. A few others kept letting out exasperated sighs. The guy was completely oblivious.
Seriously, it was like 'BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH- HA, HA-HA! BLAH! BLAH, BLAH!' Seriously, like 20 decibles above normal talking volume the entire time. I should have punched him in the neck.
I'm so sad to hear the Hollywood Bowl has turned into this. Gone are the days of the fine china, wine and actually listening to the Rogers & Hammerstein musicals. Bah.

As of last Monday there's coaches on the subway trains in Stockholm (http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?rss=1399&d=145&a=548880) where you're not supposed to talk on the mobile phone..

Some African men have these seriously booming voices that are great in appropriate situations, and just awful in others. Our old janitor used to be down the hall talking so loudly on the phone that I'd have to shut him up just so I could hear the person on my call. Just nuts.

oh, there was a guy like that when I went to a mcdonald's downtown by myself when I was sort of lost. He was just hanging out in mcdonald's chatting on his phone, kind of pacing back and forth with the HA HA HA. I just wanted to eat my chicken sandwich in peace! also a dude sort of snuck up next to me and said, "psst, hey, can I have some money?" and I was like, "uhh, I don't have any cash". which was true. creepiest most annoying mcdonald's ever!
