"Some in our own country claim retreat from Iraq would satisfy the appetite of the terrorists and get them to leave us alone," Cheney told a Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno, Nevada. "A precipitous withdrawal from Iraq would be ... a ruinous blow to the future security of the United States."

When Bush answered a question about Iraq last week by raising Sept. 11, a reporter asked him "What did Iraq have to do with that?" The president replied, "Nothing," and added, "Nobody has ever suggested in this administration that Saddam Hussein ordered the attack."

So there's no link between 9/11 and Iraq, says Bush. And yet there's a link between Iraq and terrorism, says Cheney. Well, I agree with Cheney. We went in there, blew up buildings, destroyed towns and homes, killed civilians. When those survivors grow up, they'll remember it was America that killed their families. There WILL be terrorism there. We need to stay in there, to make sure that all of them are silenced, right?

I'm sure half a dozen people in the white house spit out their coffee when they heard Bush said that.

Rumsfeld lashes out at Bush's critics

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Tuesday accused critics of the Bush administration's
Iraq and counterterrorism policies of trying to appease "a new type of fascism."

In unusually explicit terms, Rumsfeld portrayed the administration's critics as suffering from "moral or intellectual confusion" about what threatens the nation's security and accused them of lacking the courage to fight back.
sOoOo...I guess the country should sit back and let the bush administration style of fascism stay it's course rather than find a new type of fascism also known as democracy, liberty, and freedom prevail?

wow, these assholes are just that....assholes

Does Rumsfeld even know the definition of "fascism"? The terrorist groups and organizations confronting the American military machine contain no element of corporate syndicalism and seem to have no real attachment to any form of nationalism. The totalitarian ambitions of these people are not statist but theocratist in nature. To have real fascism you have to have a centralized industrial nation-state with a bureacratic apparatus and an aggressively political standing army.

Of course, when your own rhetoric relies on flinging around emotional buzzwords designed to elicit fear and suspicion among the populace, you probably don't have much time for strict definitions.

Take any newspaper story and replace Iran with Iraq, 2006 with 2003 and Uranium Enrichment with WMD and realise what's happening.

And when Iran's tearing itself apart in three years time, you'll know why.

no no no, bush just said that nobody's implying that saddam ordered the attack. totally a world of difference and you're probably a terrorist for not noticing it
