What kind of assclown is this guy?

I never heard of him until last night, but apparently he's this conservative radio talk show host who has recently been given his own TV show on CNN Headline News (thankfully it's not the regular CNN).

I was waiting in the Reagan airport for my flight and this guy's show happened to be on while I was waiting in the terminal and maaaaaaaaaaaaan, what a puke fest. He claims to mix "information" and "entertainment" (yeah, real original) as if this is an innovation. I guess it was somewhat entertaining, but it was far from informative.

The guy brought up such issues as Iran, Hurrican Katrina, John Mark Carr, the "evils" of the UN, etc. and he seemed more in love with himself than wanting to sincerely shed light on the issues.

But what I got the most out of him is that he was doing some of the same stuff as Stephen Colbert (constantly pointing fingers at the screen, fake "outrage" and wishing to "filter" the media because they don't get itwhen dammit... you ARE the media!). He's even got something close to "The Word" and a "All You Need to Know" segment. The key difference is that Stephen Colbert mocks these guys and Beck is 100% serious.

I hope Colbert will have him on his show and expose what a lame-ass Glenn Beck truly is.

I've never heard him, I've only seen the advertisements for his show when I'm at the gym and where I can see the TVs but not hear them. His ads play every third commercial and he strikes me as the male Nancy Grace, maybe an overgrown frat boy type who has his own show and laughs at his own jokes and cleverness. I've never seen Nancy Grace either, I've only seen (not heard) her ads and they irked me as much as soundless ads can. She came off as arrogant and I got that she's maybe doing that annoying tough-chick attitude.

I'm stuck at my parents' house until my new place is ready on the 1st, and their cable TV (blecchhh) package includes a couple of American news channels. I think you basically just described every one of them, Droppin: completely wrapped up in their own images, focusing on ratings and attention-grabbing visuals at the expense of actual analysis or coverage, dominated by flamboyant personalities delivering soundbites and catch phrases rather than information. I've never been more grateful for the CBC. I honestly don't know how you Americans can stand to watch that shit.

We can't. Those of us with brains don't.

I honestly don't know how you Americans can stand to watch that shit. Some of us don't stand to watch it. :) I can't remember when I last watched CNN, FOX, or ABC/CBS/NBS network news. I tend to watch PBS news and online, I'll read the BBC site, sometimes CNN (when I'm on CNN, I'm fairly wary).

I was in the Atlanta airport recently and they had a CNN store. An actual store that was filled with trinkety CNN crap.

I love PBS, man.

I honestly should watch more CBC, but those guys can veer towards the boring. Yet I find Jim Lehrer exciting. Go figure.

I think the guy was set up as a conservative version of Jon Stewart, and fails miserably. He appears to be on amphetamines most of the time.

There was a movement to try to convince CNN of what a bad decision they were making that apparently didn't make any headway. The man is a flat out racist, and has proved that on several occasions.

While I too love me some CBC Newsworld, doesn't anyone find they are slipping? I mean George Stroumboulopoulos? Since Avi Lewis left - it seems to have gone down hill (but when Naomi Klein awaits I can't blame him). Even the network itself is running some type of reality show. I still love it though.

Yeah, CBC is making some bizarre decisions. They should just remain PBS or BBC-y and leave the reality show stuff to the corporate world.

And as far as "mainstream media" goes, I do find if you're watching CNN (the regular network, not Headline News -- they're jokes), you're in decent shape as far as mainstream stuff goes. I mean, Wolf Blitzer and Larry King are awesome. Same with James Earl Jones.
