i cant belive bush has the nerve to actually tour new orleans and tell people he cares. npr had a show yesterday talking about how in the end, through all the contracts to FEMA which are then given to haliburton and a few other monster contractors, which are then broken up further into other large contractors, which are then given to others down the line...down the line, what starts off as 28 bucks per hour allotted to remove debris, when it finally gets to the person doing the work, there is only 7.50 left for that person to earn doing the job. the rest is sucked in through middle men who wait for the contracts, and then just write them off to someone else. its ridiculous. the people in new orleans should be getting the work (#1), they should be getting paid well to do it since they desperately need to get back on their feet (#2), and they should do away with all the inefficiency and bureacracy to get it done. the system is hopelessly bogus.
