I think neil young has far more classic albums in a greater range of styles. Even if it doesn't suppass dylan, youngs body of work holds up against that of the master. Grunge, punk, alt country artists all admit to influence, and thats not counting the many singersongwriters and guitarists that have a little bit of his style in them.
Despite all this he's much underatted in my opinion. I don't see biogs, number 1 books, films and endless music mag coverage.
Any fans?

One of Canada's finest!

One of the best shows I've ever seen was when he was touring for "This Note's for You". He opend with an acoustic set then had a break and brought back Crazy Horse for the kick ass portion of the show. And it was cool how he opened both portions of the concert with "This Note's for You". When Crazy Horse ripped into "Down by the River" I was in another place - out of my mind.

Neil Young is kinda far from underrated. But yeah, he's the closest thing to another Bob, obviously. I wouldn't say that he has more classic albums than Dylan, though.

But Dylan has seemed a bit, ummm, crazy for a while now.

And I know it's not really related, but I don't think you will ever see Neil in a Gap ad (or any other ad for that matter).

Neil Young is great, but he's put out his fair share of bull shit.

Which ones are you referring to?

I know if I never hear "Let's Roll" again it would be too soon.

yeah. that's true.

I prefer Neil Young but that's just me. I suppose that Dylan's best albums are technically much better but I couldn't listen to Bob as often as I listen to Neil.

i respect and admire both of them, but i don't know if i can really compare the two...if i had to, i'd say dylan > neil, even though i, too, enjoy listening to neil more than i do dylan. tha's jus how my momma raised me. :o

I always think that Neil is more about heart and Dylan about the brain. I listen to Neil Young way more.

Bruce Springsteen

No way! He's overproduced. Nebraskas the best album he's made.

Dylan is the superior songwriter. Both of them went kinda bananas in the 80s and made crap. Neil knows how to mangle the amplifiers though.

Freedom just around the corner for you, but with truth so far off, what good will it do?

I don't really get the Bob Dylan thing.

He writes some pretty good songs, but vocally he is shite. Makes me angry listening to him singing.

And when I say singing I mean the noise that a cat makes when you're kicking it in the nuts while strangling it.

yep

some argue that dylan's earlier word-play is a precursor to rap.
