I actually think that it's a really good show. I mean, it's new, and it's creative. Im watching the season finale right now, the host is in jail. It's kinda cool, they take you into all these places that, I dont think I'd ever want to go, like jail, fuck that. You see shit like this it makes you just think, ya know? Holy shit I better stay in school, Im sobering up, im quitting all the bullshit. To go to jail, that would suck. No family, No friends, the only contact you have is with murders and junkies. They showed a dude who was going through detox and he was convulsing all throughout the night. Man, that's no way to live, your body becomes so dependant on something that it's like air, you NEED it. That's just scary. Seeing shit like this is worst then having to listen to Nancy Regan, but it'll open your eyes. I like that.
This is some crazy shit, but It's a damn good show (y)
Do you know what is wild about the most recent jail show? I got a call today from my friend in Va that is a Sgt with a county police dept. He arrested Travis the guy that is detoxing from heroin on the show. He arrested him in a neighboring county when he was 18 for possession.
I used to work for Henrico County doing documentaries. I spent time in the jail interviewing drug addicts for a short form piece on their rehab program. The program the county offers is called RISE (Recovery in a Secure Environment). It is a small world.

I guess so. I always wonder, ya know. You see all these people they say have been in and out of those jails 3 or 4 times. I wonder how many people say "Im going to change. Honestley." and then they dont? Like the one dude they just showed, he's 50 years old, been in jail since he was in the 7th grade. That's crazy. I mean, If I was 30 and still going in and out of jail, I'd quit. No matter what. That would be it.
The recidivism rate is very high.
67.5% of prisoners released in 1994 were rearrested within 3 years, an increase over the 62.5% found for those released in 1983.

The jail east where Morgan Spurlock is transferred is where I stayed for 2 days. I was a county employee and they granted access and a cell for me to sleep in while filming. They only work on drug recovery and inmates have to be accepted to the program.

wow, thats really sad. both of the guys that they showed on the show were both put back in jail. They said Travis was back in jail within 2 months and the old dude was put back in a while later also.
That's sad, why would you do that to yourself? thats just stupid. if I was put in solitary confinement for 72 hours I'd probabley kill myself. I had in school suspension for 5 hours once and by the end of the day I was completley out of it, I was so happy to see people it was pathetic.
Its like they actually like being in jail or something..
as much as I love not being able to listen to music, or watch movies, or be with my friends and family, I think i'll pass, thanks. (n)
All I can say is that it is a different world. Drugs, poverty and education all play a roll. I don't think they set out to be institutionalized for life but most criminals do just that.....they usually become estranged from their families and have no support system. Who wants to hire a drug addict that just got out of jail on a grand larceny charge? It is a vicious cycle and nobody has the answer. The jails just keep filling up and to be honest with you I don't mind. Drug addicts can easily become violent and desperate. I just wish jails offered more in the way of rehab like Henrico County. It is totally funded by the inmates and not taxpayer money.
