No, still not okay. He can't make up for shit like Dance Into The Light and those Tarzan songs. I want to throw that guy into a burning building sometimes.

my girl Lisa is obsessed with Philly and dragged me to a concert 2 years ago, it actually wasnt that bad. But I'm still embarrassed to tell people I've been to a Phil Collins concert.

At our last gig we did a rock version of "Jesus he knows me".

Almost as good as doing Robert Palmers "Addicted to love" at twcie the speed.:)

Not really surprised, Nata.

Don't Lose My Number is an oddly catchy song, however.

i hear that phil collins is like, massive in america.
and with the hip hop/r&b stars too. what is up with that? i think i remember an album of phil covers a few years back by r&b artists, didn't brandy and her brother do one? another day in paradise? nut-bars!
phil collins aint so bad. he's a good songwriter. when we went to buckingham palace after winning tickets to party at the palace - phil drummed through the whole fucking thing. ozzy osbourne said he was a bloody legend!
oh..peter gabriel is better though (y).

I don't care what ANY of you herbs who dis Phil say - he's solid. Minus of course all the gay Lion King soundtrack horseshit.

You can't fuck with anything he did from the Genesis days to about 1989. Shit makes me want to put on a Aqua Green Windbreaker and go jogging on the beach every time.

I bought 'No Jacket Required' cuz I'm working on a script set in the early 90s.

and YES, I know it was released in the 80s.

excellent choice. people enjoyed Phil into 1991-92, until the whole seattle band thing happened, then Phil become unfresh, along with Bryan Adams and Steve Winwood and that whole crew

Well obviously. ^

That's like saying that you prefer Bon Scott over Brian Johnson or David Lee Roth over Sammy Hagar. Except it's even MORE obvious and much LESS open for debate.

'Easy Lover' and 'In the Air Tonight' what what?

Easy Lover easily slips in to my top 10 favourite songs ever. I don't often admit it but it's true.

I kind of screech along to it though. That Phil Bailey bloke sings far to high for me.

I was about to make a thread about this. !!!

The Genesis days were great and he had a little something with the solo career. The shit hit the fan when he made ...But Seriously. Then if you look at the Dance into the Light cover, well, I think that explains it all.

Sussudio is hard to fuck with. You have to pay attention to the beat of that beast. He's a damn talented drummer. I don't know why South Park made him out to be such a douche, though. Did I miss again?

what was the deal with genesis? peter gabriel was the lead singer before phil collins right? and did phil collins realise some solo stuff while he was still with genesis? or what that before/after genesis?

my genesis knowledge is a little shaky but i think it's goes along the lines of, gabriel vocals and interesting headgear, collins drummer, gabriel does one, collins vocalist, collins does solo stuff as does mike rutherford, mike & the mechanics (shudders), all back to genesis, more solo stuff. I don't even know if genesis have officially split up for good

Ando at work tonight (sup Ando?) told me about his friend holidaying in North-Western Australia, who put Phil Collins on the jukebox at this dodgy-ass outback pub. A bloke walked over and pulled the plug on the thing. Dude turns around and says: "Mate, I was listening to that." and the bloke just smashes his glass in the side of the Collins-fan's face. So now, people say to him "Where'd you get the scar?" and he says "Phil Collins".

Genesis did split. Mike & Tony did one Genesis album with another singer after Phil finally left, and then they were done.

I've read that Phil went deaf in one ear recently from a viral infection, so he's not going to do tours or produce other people's music anymore.

The reason South Park made fun of him was because Phil got the Oscar for best song for one of those Tarzan songs, which was nominated along with a song from the South Park movie ("Blame Canada").

ok, so i guess "against all odds" isn't a bad song. but i only like the postal service version (http://www.redmusic.com/video/PostalService/AgainstAllOdds.asx) of it. i can't fucking STAND phil's voice.

Why could more mainstream artists release singles that don't even sound like singles; "In The Air..." really was a well uniquly done single.

Hell yes, Phil is #1 in my book. I've got "No Jacket Required" and "Face Value." Fuck the Phil haters, they hate because he's bald and can rock it in a way that they never could.

I like Phil Collins and Genesis (both Phil led and Peter led). Sure, he isn't the greatest vocalist in the world but he's a great entertainer.
In The Air Tonight is a classic.

In The Air Tonight is a classic.well, his voice is very distinct atleast. (As in you know who is who like Sting, David Lee Roth, Stevie Nicks, etc; voices that stand apart from others.)

from now on im gonna kill every band/singer who covers that 'so original to cover' songs like 'in the air tonight' and 'another day in paradise'

come on that songs arent really THAT great

and 'against all odds' is one of my most hated songs

i kinda like 'land of confusion' though
