So I'm looking at this brochure for car insurance, and this chick is getting out of her car, smiling. Following this she's driving down the road, smiling. Then we get a picture of the friendly service staff, also smiling. And I think "Who fucking looks like this?".

Same goes with underwear. If a lady in her wotsits saw me looking through her window, would she simply tilt her head to one side, hand on hip, and smile? Shit no.

It's funny in practice, since I work in hospitality. People always say to me "Why aren't you smiling?", and they're always the most maudlin cunts anyway. I don't see them beaming ear-to ear.

It's strange how advertisers choose to appeal to our sensibilities by always showing smily, happy people. Especially since it's the one thing that seems so rare in others nowadays. Perhaps if public transport were advertised by beaten-up schoolkids, and recently deceased street dwellers with syringes still in their arms, people wouldn't catch the bus.

Whenever I do shit at home, I wear the catalogue smile, just to prove how fucking stupid it looks. You're not fooling me.

It's always great when it's an ad for like Preparation H, and they've got these great big smiles on like they're trying to say "My ass feels GRRREAT!" It's always a little disturbing.

And on the Metro today, I realized there was an ad for like ABC 7 Morning News, and the whole team was there, with their arms folded in a "I mean business but I'm not a hardass" way, and great big smiles on. And they always have the black female cast member in front. I was staring at it, and thought it would be funny if all the white males were in the front, and they were all looking sullen and tired and angry. I'd watch that show. (y)

Melissa Doyle (http://www.bamya.com.au/resource/Melissa-Doyle-web.jpg) is a T.V host here, who just spends her whole life smiling. I often imagine she self-harms, and feeds her children just the teensiest bit of rat-poison in their meals. Just to cope.

Her mouth says "this is fun!" but her eyes say "please kill me."

I mean, I fucking hate smiling. If you walked around smiling all the time, people would assume you were mental.

Did you ever see that Simpsons episode where Ned Flanders was in charge of the world and forced everyone to smile using these hook-machines that grab your mouth? And then Homer turns to the guy next to him and asks "Who the hell are you smiling at?"

Yeah, I should ask someone that the next time they're walking around with a shit-eating grin.

Yeah, fully. Some people are born smilers, and can use it to manipulate others. Coupled with late-teen cleavage, a well placed smile has befuddled gorillas on nightclub doors many a time.

i'm not a big fan of smiling. it's not that i'm moody or anything, it's just that i'm drawn that way, my face doesn't naturally rest in a smiley position. i never got the hang of casual smiling, i always look doofy when i try to force it. i have about 12 years worth of yearbook photos if you need evidence. i hate it when people tell you to smile, in these really melancholy tones.

i smile a lot during the day because I get to talk to crazy old people all day. And since Im on the phone pretty much all day I feel that if I smile at least I'll sound happy to talk to them even if Im not. they say that if you smile while on the phone the person on the other end can tell.

i also smile randomly sometimes, because im easily amused.
