Ah, I just don't like the way he goes on about people becoming corporate sell outs when he has a lackey taking photos of all his work so that he can put it all in a book and flog it at £10-15 more than it should be priced at.

I mean, yeah, a man's gotta make a living, but it's very hard to come off all anti-capitalist when you turn what is basically free art into a massive profit.

I totally respect his work as an artist though. The man is a genius (y)

He's not a sell out at all. Selling out would be making art just to make money in the first place. His art hasn't lost any value, or lessened in its message just because he released a book. He didn't get into the gig to make money, he got into it because he believed in something, and even if he's making money off of his art, as long as he retains his integrity as a political icon, which he has, i wouldn't consider him a hypocrite at all. It saves him working some shitty job in pizza hut or something, which i'd imagine he probably has to do regardless. Such is the way of the world.

P.s: you don't have to buy the book.

Even using all of my imagination (and there's a lot of it), I still find it very hard to believe that Banksy works at Pizza Hut. Actually, I bet he uses his "Pizza Hut Members Only Free Rail and Air Travel Card" to get about.

P.s: you don't have to buy the book.

You don't produce a book if you don't think it's going to sell and make you a tidy profit. Unless you're Al Gore of course.

It was an example, you know what i meant.

I didn't say otherwise. So what if he's making money off of his art? He's still carrying his own messages as opposed to waging a guerilla marketing campaign for coca cola or something. That would be selling out. It's not like he's just stopped caring because he's now able to make money from his work. Like i said, artist integrity. He's still doing it for himself, and if creating a book enables him to carry on doing so, i'm all for him.

Aye, I know he'd never sell out in the way some graffiti artists do - doing "street art" for Disney and the like *spits* If anything, Banksy always rips the piss out of that sort of stuff, which is why I like him so much.

I think your points are fair and just, TimTim. If he puts his money towards spray paint and stenciling card then it's a-ok (y)

fair enough he sold a book, he has to make money somehow. I'd sell a book if I had a book to sell.

Well as long he puts his money towards staying alive and doesn't dampen his message, he's no sellout bwoy! :D
