Im done with festivals. Sleeping in shitty muddy tents, pooping in portaloos overflowing with piss, sick and shit, having drunkards fall on top of you in the middle of the night, eating over priced food and booze and looking at bands you detest (like the Pet Shop Boys) cuz ur just waiting for someone you like to start (Cut Chemist). Living in squalor to see someone play for an hour whilst being robbed by all the vendors is no way for civilised people to live. PLus i hate hippies, and this place was over flowing with drugged up crusties trying to hug everyone. Death to them.
There was however some highlights...I shook DJ Shadow's hand.
Ive never met a legitamate "hero" of mine, but on Saturday at a music festival he walked past me and shook my hand. Im not to big on meeting people or getting autographs or anything but it was cool. gay, i know.
He gave a wee interview in a tent before his set, the interviewer was a dipshit who knew nothing about anything. You could see her head begin to melt when Shadow mentioned hyphy and David Banner when all she clearly knew was UNKLE. Then the floor was thrown open for a questions for the fans, only one dude got to ask one and it was a dumb question about UNKLE and Shadow unwittingly mocked him. We laughed like sycophantic smug assholes.
His set was amazing, Lateef showed up, made us all jump about. he had some really gay visuals for the Banner song with Banner rapping at the camera but other wise it was the best gig ive ever been too. The new stuff works surpisingly well in his set.
Also at the festival i saw Grandmaster Melle Mel, which was the stupidest thing ever.He danced about in a white flatcap with no shirt on like something from a male burlesque show. He played the 4 songs he ever recorded (including the full vocals and all version of "White Lines" which he just shouted over)....then started doing hip-hop kareoke, then resorted to just playing records including Madonna's "Holiday" and closing with (!?) Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit". All the drunkards loved it. I laughed.
But i now feel like shit, my back hurts and i smell like grass.
Kill All Hippies.
