For those people who are opposed to hunting, this is why people hunt.

I'd rather the game commission control the over populating of the deer population and control which deer are to be killed (adult males only) and exactly how many than see them get hit by cars and possibly kill people, or even starve to death.

I'll get off my soapbox now.
Im against hunting for sport...not food.
Plus i'm not sure if its the deer that have the overpopulation problem...or us humans.

Glad to hear you're okay Ms. Airesse. My friend and I were in her car when a deer ran in front of her Corolla - she slammed on the brakes and it went into her hood. If she had not hit the brakes, he would have come RIGHT through her side door and probably killed her. :(

Then insurance wanted "proof" that it was a deer that hit her car and not just her hitting something because she's a dumbass, so she took pictures of the tufts of fur stuck in the hood and the blood spots.

We were going only 30 mph, so when we hit the deer he probably just broke a few bones and went off into the forest to die. He wasn't there when we came back around, at least. DUN-DUN-DUUUNNN!

Don't get me wrong, I have relatives who are hunters...but it's not to help the "overpopulation." Hunters aren't doing this act out of benevolence, they're doing it because it's fun. Just like when I go fishing, I may go to a lake that's full of fish but it's not me trying to just "thin out the lake" - it's me enjoying the act of fishing. It's satisfying to catch your own dinner sometimes.

Either way, people hunt around where I am and it doesn't seem to make a damn bit of difference to the deer population. I mean, when you make an urban development RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of where hundreds of deer used to live, there's going to be a LOT of deer around. I feel bad hunting them. "Hey we just stole your land and resources, why don't you deal with a bullet to the head or vital organs now?" It just seems a little messed up. The solution is to stop/contain urban sprawl first. And then if deer are still a problem, it should be dealt with. I personally think that birth control for deer (http://www.aphis.usda.gov/lpa/pubs/fsheet_faq_notice/faq_wsgonacondeer.pdf#search=%22birth%20control%20 deer%22) which can be shot into the deer themselves is the most humane thing to do to help control their population. It just needs to become financially more feasible.

I did. I always call. I think they sent out the cops with a gun, because that's what happened the last time I saw a deer dragging itself and its two back broken legs across the street. I thought they'd try to save it because I was naive. They were like "Um, we'll let you drive off so you don't hear the shot." :(
