after reading this, my current mood is pretty darn excited
Money Mark + Beastie Boys
Current mood: bouncy
So YANS spoke to Money Mark earlier, a written record of this experience will feature in a future episode of our favourite frangant periodical Foggy Notions. During the course of the long chat money happened to show new footage from his laptop of the beastie boys in their studio, eating drinking laughing talking, Mike D playing guitar(???).......Ad Rock behind a kit(????) etc etc........."check your head 2".....is a quote from money himself. Excited is not the word.....news from the beastie camp is that everyone is doing well and feeling great about the work thats begun...
Then money alfredo ortiz and tucker tore up the crawdaddy stage........
more will follow.

Wow, thank you so much for posting this! Best news ever! After TT5B, I was beginning to think that the instruments might've been on indefinite hiatus! That's interesting too that Mike's on guitar this time, can't wait to see/hear what they put together. Please keep us updated!

honestly, i think that this is the most refreshing thing i'v eheard since rhyme the rhyme well first entered my ears. i dunno, mayb ethey are realizing that they have a bit of a limited time to create music of this fashion (rap) and have it be fairly mainstream, i dunno, they ain't exactly young, but i like how they're back behind the instruments a bit. I'd personally like a few more rap songs ont he upcoming album based on the amount they had on CYH, but i definitely welcome any and all instrumentals

I knew they were working on an album because it was brought up here a few months ago but I actually heard a local DJ talking about it on the radio last night. Right when we heard him say "the Beastie Boys are working on a new album and it's going to be sick! Can't wait, love them Boys." My friend and I looked at eachother right away and we were like "yeaah boy".
And I'm definitely a fan of them possibly picking up the instruments again.

"check your head 2" Money Mark
I love to see money said that, but there's no way they could ever match the magic that was on that album. It may sound like it, but it could not be check your head 2.
In fact, I dont want it to be check your head 2.
They have so much talent and can (and have been) very revolutionary. Why make an album just like cyh.
I don't see that happening and I dont think anyone could predict what they are going to end up with for the simple fact of.......the beasties never know what they are gonna have at the end.
for example: adding rap songs on cyh, adding lyrics to sabotage.

.
Doing a sequel to a great album, bringing guitars back (thank Christ)- I can live with that. I hope all the songs on their next album get finished though. TT5B sounds increasingly like the builders were still on site drinking amazingly strong tea going "Yeah, we'll just cover it up with very loud drum samples".

perhaps its just a temp. name, like i read that solid gold hits was going to be called "contractual obligation" or something like that in Q magazine and then it ended up being solid gold hits so maybe they'll change it closer to the release date.

What I think he's trying to say is that it will be like CYH, not that that would be the title.

i think money was just saying that it "sounded" like CYH 2, in other words, it sounds like the next album will be in a similar fashion to CYH

Money Mark is dope. I think people underestimate the effect that he and other musicians had on the sounds and music in Check Your Head and Ill Communication. Mark's first album "Money Mark's Keyboard Repair" is the fonk! The more muscians like him on the albums the better.

I found this odd too, but I was watching the Beastieography & when they were recording CYH, Ricky Powell said they were trying all kinds of stuff, like Horovitz playing sax while Yauch scratched records. Never knew Mike played guitar though- maybe he'll sing & play if they do more hardcore songs???

Or at all. Still exciting though. My wife is watching her fucked up TNT dramas and I'm like, "Damn honey, this guy, on myspace, he knows Money Mark, the bboys stage keyboardist......"
Yeah, let's just say she's not quite as excited as we are.

So I told my fiancee "this dude on the Beastie Boys official website fully agrees with me about people misinterpreting even the slightest news about the band (you know, regarding that interview the dude did with Money Mark, that I was telling you about, where he mentions Check Your Head 2 (which I would settle for as a title if I had to))", and she gave me look like "Dude, get the fuck out of this house.".
