Go Bob Amsterdam!

Khodorkovsky wanted to emancipate himself. He wanted to leave the only role, which Russian society tolerates him taking on as the son of a Jew, and go into politics; afterall: What is emancipation if not political engagement. But this went to far for the anti-semites sitting in the kreml. Money they can make, that is what is foreseen in the protocols, but politics - politics is not for Jews. The members of the Duma would rather take their money. That's why Yukos couldn't govern transparently, because that way pay offs to the members of parliament would be impossible.
When Khodorkovsky was arrested the german chancellor schröder applauded; a double shame! Now the shambles of Yukos were ipo'd as Rosneft; Ros-Theft would be more accurate, financed among other crooks by malayian Petronas, it is equal to an arianisation. Support Bob Amsterdam, Michail's lawyer in this Dreyfus affair of our times.

you think khodorkovsky was thrown in jail for being jewish? my opinion is that it had more to do with the fact that he was spending hundreds of millions in bribes to pretty much everyone in the duma

i don't know about that, are you sure they weren't normal party donations. In any case he strived towards transparency in his political endeavour and a closed society punishes that

basically every party in the duma unofficially sells seats, and khordorkovsky bought up a ton of them. Putin hates the oligarches but his one rule he gave them was 'stay out of politics'. Putin was pissed off at Mikhail for ages and did give him alot of time to get out of russia. The fact that he didn't leave prolly meant that he truly believed he could run russia to benefit the nation. He ended up being arrested for something that basically every oligarch should be arrested for, massive counts of fraud, so in a way he's a martyr. Gorbachev and Yeltsin totally fucked up russia allowing the majority of the wealth to go into the hands of a few. Moscow now has more billionaires then any other city in the world, yet a quarter of the city live below the poverty line. Short of maybe Dubai, no other city has a bigger gap between the haves and have nots.

By arresting Khodorkovsky it's scared some of the oligarches into selling back their assets to the kremlin. Recently Roman Abramovich sold his share of Sibneft back to the Kremlin, which is for the best in the long run. So he was just an example to be made of, he was arrested for what all the oligarchs should be arrested for, but ultimately Putin believes it's benefiting the nation.

haha, he deserves to be in jail, but I think he was put there for fraudulent reasons.

yeah, well the with the company he made his money from was worth a couple of billion. he made a bid for $283 mil for it but 3 other companies made much higher bids. Mysteriously those 3 companies (set up by his friends) pulled out of the bidding, and he picked up Yukos ridiculously cheap. Also instead of paying the full 283 mil he only ended up paying the $225000 deposit for a multi billion dollar company. so yeah it's pretty dodgy shit.

he'd be fucking rich if he didn't get thrown in jail. he was richer than Abramovich and Abramovich is now the 10th richest man in the world
