View Full Version : I'm no supervisor

She's not my equal exactly. I'm certainly not her boss. She gets paid more then I do, she's older, she's worked here longer, she does different work than I do, but she's also my "support" or my "help" in one department and I'm supposed to make sure she does her share of the help.
She's not much help. She really slacks on it because she hates doing it. And I'm terrible at getting her to do anything, I'm so passive. She's not even good at it, she's slow, she procrastinates, and she doesn't even respect me! She's supposed to do some of my stuff every morning, every day...unless there's a huge important last minute thing that comes up. But she doesn't do it everyday! And when she does she only works on it for about 15 minutes, when it should be more like 3 hours.
One day she was complaining to me about having to do the stuff I give her, saying it was boring and she couldn't imagine having to do it every day. Uhh, bitch you're SUPPOSED to be doing it every day! And please have the decency to bitch like that to someone else. I was insulted.
And just because I'm a snarky bitch myself: she's two-faced and overly anal and a know-it-all and she's cheap and a moocher and hoarder, and she chews gum really loudly. GAHHH!!

that sucks
I cannot stand it when I have a horrible co-worker. Fortunately I no longer have that problem at my current job (over a year now here). You should definitely talk to a supervisor, though. I understand being passive, I'm the same way, but that's bullshit if it's her job to be helping you. That's money they are paying to her to do so. They will be concerned and do something about it.

I can be a total ass at work
Im not really a supervisor of a specific area at work, I moreso have authority over anyone below me
anyways I have lists of things to be done and once they are done, immediately, the person is supposed to cross them off the list so the next shift knows what needs to be finished up
anyways, the day after I had assigned some samples I went to check on one that the results hadnt arrived for yet, and all I found was it still sitting uncrossed out on the list where it had been highlighted and a worker had written "not done" next to it
so I searched him out, he was outside on a break with his buddies and I held up the piece of paper and yelled at him in front of about 8 other people about why the samples werent done, and he was all "blah blah excuse excuse bullshit"
all really lame becuase I needed this sample so that a client could have his results for a press release later that evening
so my last remark was:
"really, so when you take a shit and dont wipe your ass each day do you also highlight that and write "NOT DONE" on it too?"

I dont get it Heiress.
Nuzz, please see cmute's post for what I would have wrote but why write the same thing because it only really wastes time that I could be spending singing bad rap lyrics along with NLOL or making fun of TPK or creating another thread to complain about things like my gums suck and i dont want to have to have surgery again or how I wish we had more monorails around los angeles because i'm tired of seeing the same view of the train all the time because its just fences where a monorail would be high up and I could see tons of things and maybe even see a porn being shot when i go through the capital of porn or something cool like that.

The capital of porn?!
I haaaate the idea of sounding like one of those whiny "yyyeah, if you could do a little more work that would reeeallly help me out mmkay?" fake sounding micromanagers. I have to work with her so I do not want to offend her, it would just make life a pain in the ass if she was upfront about her dislike of me. I'm sure she's catty behind my back but as long as I don't see it I don't care. Then I get into thinking about how I slack off some times too, and she IS really busy and maybe they give her too much to do, so it's not my place to give her a hard time. I mean I'm not struggling here, work is going smoothly even without her doing much. I almost feel like it's picking on her.

I love how Chewy talks about not wanting to waste time in a long-winded paragraph. Hi5.

I know how you're trying to explain yourself. And I'm well-aware that Chewy knew what he was doing when he typed it, and you're thinking that I thought he actually had no idea and was pointing it out, when I was actually just saying that I found it amusing.

I was worried you were going to say that and then I'd feel like a jerk for giving you a hard time for explaining why he was funny.

OK. you want her to change, but you don't want to offend her. You don't want to micromanage, but you are not a supervisor. Now, I am confused.
Have you ever played any team sports? Think about how you would tell a team mate that you have to trust to step it up.
First part: Exactly.
Second part: I don't play team sports. But if I did, I'd think the other team members had a common goal. I don't think she and I have a common goal. I don't feel like she's part of my team. She gives a very clear implication that her work is important and occupying and the stuff I give her is a side task that takes her away from what she really has to do. I feel like it's not my place to get on her more than I already have. I put things in her in-box. They eventually get done. I just think she's slow and doesn't give it much attention. I might be nitpicking because it's MY stuff.

Nuzzolese, reads like you got the situation analyzed to the T. Perhaps implementing just a small, conscious change in that entire equation could move things in a more constructive direction. Good skill with that. "And remember: keep smiling" :D
