View Full Version : Are the 10 Commandments prevalent where you live?

They are hanging on the wall inside the foyer in the local fatty, all-you-can-eat joint where I live. I also saw them on a poster at Wal-Mart the other day, accompanied by all kinds of American flags and eagles and shit.
I don't get it. The values set forth in the 10 Commandments are common sense as far as I'm concerned, all the more reason for my confusion as to why they have to be posted in public places. The religious aspect could be argued, I suppose. But wouldn't it be more logical to have the seven deadly sins readily available in public, particularly at the local fatty, all-you-can-eat joint?
I would like to trace at what point in history the line was blurred between values, beliefs, and laws. The yocals around these parts seem to think they are all one in the same.

Oh, West Virginny.
Not around where I am, but I'm sure if you went into the panhandle or eastern shore, you'd see more stuff. On Route 17 in NC to my parents house, Jesus billboards were everywhere. And we kept seeing bumper stickers that said "My boss is a Jewish carpenter" and my brother wanted to make one that said "My boss is an Italian plumber." (y)
Dude, I've been to that WalMart. I remember seeing the 10 Commandments poster!
1. Honor thy Dale, Jr. and Tony Stewart.
2. Thou shall not covet your neighbor's 12 gauge.
3. Thou shall not murder.......unless that sumbitch is on yer land.
4. Observe the Nascar day and keep it holy.
5. Thou shall not use the Lord's name in vain......while bonin your sister.
..........Fuck, I forget the other half.:(
i don't think i've ever actually seen them posted anywhere in new england
we northerners are too sophisticated for that kind of thing you understand

northerners love the ten commandments. A few years ago the town I grew up in had a bunch of signs in peoples yards that said "The Ten Commandments" which for the life of me I couldnt figure out what the significance was. Apparently the City Hall had them on display and it was up for debate having them taken down, which pissed off a bunch of people with nothing better to do

not in california, no. that wouldn't be respectful of the many religions and cultures we have here. If feel you the need to express your morals here you can put a few bummper stickers on your car like everyone else!

people where i grew up are religious for social reasons. they go to church to keep up with each other. so... umm... the 10 commandments are kinda ignored. more importantly is the rule "thou shalt not year last year's gucci".
oh the 'set is an incredibly interesting place to grow up.
and ive NEVER seen religion even mentioned within city limits.

Is said eatery open on a Sunday?
Does Walmart open on a a Sunday?
If so, go up to all staff and point to number four I believe it is, and tell them to stop all productive activity RIGHT now, or go to hell.
