I absolutely fell in love with this movie. Just how rough it is on Justin not knowing what's going on with Tessa. Then when the truth starts revealing itself as he hunts for it. How his feelings start to change;
"Be reasonable. There are millions of people, they all need help. It's what the agencies are here for."
"Yeah, but these are three people that WE can help."
later him saying that about the little girl.
I think it was well done. And the part I mention in particular makes you wonder why all of us don't make the effort to at least help one person. If we ALL helped one person, how much better things might be. Etc.
What say you?

I'm currently reading the book and have read far enough to be able to tell you that it's amazing and you should have read that first!
I don't know why we all can't make such effort. Tessa is of course an extreme example of what can be done; although it's only extreme to me because I don't do anything. Sad, actually.

I got so frustrated with Tessa's character; How she was selfish and brash and clumsy with her efforts, how she kept her husband out of things "to protect him" when really I think it was her pride compelling her to crusade independently and be a heroine.
And I loved that little girl he was trying to save by getting her on the rescue plane. She looked from face to face, waiting to see if she would get a ride out of there, so quickly, then when they said no she just took off running like a bullet. It was like she was thinking "Am I getting out of here? Yes? No? Yeah? NO? Okay fuck this I'm out."

Yeah; but that stuff made her more believable to me. I thought her part was really well-written, rather than the standard female crap -- either femme fatale or angel of the morning.
I don't know if that's Graham Greene's contribution or the screenwriter's -- it's one of Greene's books I haven't read.

Beautiful scene that could've been waaaaaaayyyy heavy-handed (the shoe's on the other foot kinda thing).

hated the Tessa character. wanted her to slip in the bath and kill herself and her baby. Fiennes' character Justin was nearly as irritating. such a fucking pussy.
anyway I wanted political and not romantic intrigue.

Don't miss the real point which was what wankers the pharmaceutical companies are - and that's not just fiction.

The Occasional Lawnmower will have you on the edge of your seat.
Will it be in virtual reality like Lawnmower Man?
