View Full Version : I had an accident

skating around last night i lost the brake, grabbed on to a pole and jammed my finger to look like a fucked up piece of macaroni. i thought i broke it, my finger was bent up in a way that hurt just looking at it. i went to the emergency room, got x-rayed, got shot up and had it snapped back into shape - ouch.

so im uninsured and this emergency room visit is gonna cost me a shit load of cash, probably between $1000-$2000, which i dont have and cant afford to cough up right now. fucking shit.

i wish there were something for uninsured full time workers like me who cant really throw up thousands of bucks just like that. im fucked goddamn it.

i thought you were gonna say you had an accident in your pants

sorry :(

yeah, whenver someone in the US tells me about their hospitals/doctors experiences i always cringe at the massive cost of it. that fucking sucks man. can you take a loan out for something like that?

 Your skateboard has a brake?
Anyway, maybe you can try to bail.

rollerblading, blading, skating, whatever. yeah it had a brake. i had skated around without a brake forever the day i counted on it, it broke. it was either grab the pole or get hit by a car.

yeah, the cost of taking care of yourself is obscene. its not fair that someone is going to take all that money from me for about 10 minutes of work and 2 xrays. i may have to get a loan or something, yes. doesnt that fucking blow? i may have that other type of 'accident' when i see the bill

I had to pay for an unecessary ambulance ride one time when i was just out of college and still unemployed. Usually they'll work with you and set up some sort of payment plan. It sucks, but you don't want to have fucked up credit.

...a lot of hospitals have indigent funds set up; also, many have pretty outrageously easy repayment plans, as long as you're paying something (like, say, $20/month at 0% interest). Go back to the hospital and ask to talk to someone about possible financial solutions.

Someone might soon make a joke about Americans paying for healthcare.

Or..... they might not. (Especially if you can document lack of expendible income, unsteady salary, etc.)*

Let them say "no" instead of you. It's worth an exploratory phone call, at least. Unless it was your dialing finger.

*I found out the hard way :(

Wow that sucks. I hate that we don't have universal healthcare because it really fucks over a lot of people.

My friend's boyfriend had to pay $20,000 out of pocket because he was uninsured and hit by a car in a Dairy Queen parking lot (who had been racing, spun out of control, hit him, and the driver ran like hell and got away). The boyfriend had shoved my friend out of the way so she wasn't hurt (she just got bruised up) and he ended up getting hit - had bruising of his internal organs, and broke the bone around his eye, and had to get a rod in his leg.

They eventually found the guy, and the guy's car insurance said they would only pay out a maximum of $20,000 - to be split between ALL those involved (4 people were hurt by the car). Insurance companies are so skeezy, if they were to insure his dumbass in the first place they should have to pay out ALL of it. To have a maximum payout is retarded.

Anyways, he's much more fux0red. So don't feel TOO bad.

See, now that sounds like a lawsuit.

Insurance companies often try to underbid, just to get people to sign the dotted line and relieve them of financial responsibility. A halfway decent lawyer could've gotten way more than this, I'd think. Thank God I've never had one really try to screw me over, so I don't know first-hand.

It WAS a lawsuit. All 5 people who were hit by the car sued the guy's insurance, and the insurance would only pay out $20,000. At first they said $15,000 but they raised it. Maybe it was just crappy lawyers, but either way, they weren't able to get what they needed.

I don't get it. In a lawsuit, the court would decide what the insurance company would pay; not the insurance company.

Hmm. That's weird. I don't really know what it was, just know that it sucked.

Most (if not all) states require that auto owners have basic insurance liability coverage.

QueenAdrock

Yeah, I know one or two people who don't have auto insurance because "they're really good drivers." I actually know another person who didn't have health insurance because "she rarely gets sick."

Both excuses are retarded. You buy insurance in case something catastrophic happens that you didn't forsee.

your buddies make it look 200% less homosexual. (y) that video is a-ok too.

i still have a hard time remembering there's no health care here. i can't imagine paying money for something so routine as a busted finger. i think i get coverage at the end of the month, so tha'ts reassuring.

really, i mean nothing by it. its an old beef as old as ticats vs argonauts. i think it started when they started showing up at skateparks back in the day and snaking everyone. rocking their flashyhot pink windbreakers and head bands...

i looked for a segment from OPTIGRAB that had a hilarious rolller blading gag, with finger booters, scooting around a miniature town. no luck tho.

i really was just teasing.

yea see I like to ice skate in the winter too so it helps all year round. Plus it's nice to do on the lake in the mornings. I want to learn how to surf, the waves in Chicago arent too promising though. ;)

whats the worst thing about rollerblading?

telling your parents you're gay.

i love living in australia, u can get private health insurance, which costs a bucketload, but why should you, when most healthcare is free anyway??
seeing a doctor - free
emergency surgery - free
having a baby in a public hospital - free

australia rules, ok?

once again, that joke is from the sopranos and when they told it, it was about skateboarders.
