Omg, my parents went out shopping and what they saw just totally disgusted me and pissed me off.
They were walking past this shop and there was a pram there, completely unattended, with a baby in it, not even a year old. An elderly couple were sitting on a bench and they said they didn't know who's baby it was, but they stayed there just to look after the baby and make sure no psychos ran off with it or something.
Then after at least half an hour, the parents just came wandering out of the shop, took the pram and left! WTF!
Really, if you care more about shopping than about your own child you are unfit for parenting, and should have your child and all your baby making equipment taken away.
I'm just thinking, what if the elderly couple wern't there and a dirty psycho did run off with the kid? The parents would probably blame everyone but themselves. Cunts. I feel so sorry for that kid.

That's grounds to call the police.

I was once in a mulit-storey car park in deeelightful Chatham in Kent, and there was a approx eight month old and approx 3 year old locked in a car, eating happy meals (monstrous choking hazard on the part of the 8 month old). I hung on ten minutes, in case mum was just bringing something huge up on the lift, but she didn't show, so I called the police. They, of course, took their sweet time, as they asked if I would be waiting with the car until they got there, and said yes. About 30 mins later they turned up, and waited next to the car. As I was driving away I saw a woman running towards the a car with an OMG! look on her face, at seeing a police car next to hers.
It's offically neglect, call the cops everytime.

i get very sad when i see on the news that a child died because the parent forgot the baby was in the car. i just can't even fathom how that could happen. sheer stupidity doesn't even cover it.

i think everyone should be strongly encouraged to take a parenting class when they're going to have a baby. like an intro to parenting. it should be free, easy to find, and maybe they could even do it at the doctor's office in the waiting room, so that you at least pick up a few tips if you don't go to a whole class.

and i definitely think that schools should have a program (if they don't already) where teens who have babies come in and talk about how they should have waited until they were older to have a child.

Yeah, call the fuzz. Stupid parents.

I saw a mum the other day 'texting' on her mobile phone while her baby sat in a pram crying in the rain. Not just a bit of drizzle, the kid had water gushing down it's face and it's paltry amount of hair was all wet - so it had been there a while.

The very real problem is that there are many parents out there with things like learning disabilities and addictions. While this has always been the case, when people lived in larger family groups, the extended family was there to pick up the slack, offer shelter and defense when alcoholic husband came home, etc. My ex-neighbour was a little 'slow', and her mother used to come round every morning to make sure the kids were up and ready for school on time. She was a good mother, just go easily distracted, and needed help. If only more people were willing to ask for that kind of help.

New parents used to learn the basics from their parents, but now no one seems to ever want to listen to advice, they think they know it all.

I often have to work in the heroin capital of the north east (Fraserburgh) and it's horrible the amount of junkies with little kids in tow, coming home from school to find their cats dead in the microwave, or quite often, a parent dead on the sofa. These people just don't deserve their kids, and I don't think any amount of training will overcome their stupidity. The other addictions, of course, are such things as -

Distraction is the new addiction.
Dammit, I'm getting angry now.

Yeah these parents are perfect craps! No wonder the baby is of no concern to them and I have seen many such couples who have a similar attitude towards their babies. This gives the impression that as if the baby was unwanted to them and the birth of the baby happened accidentally when they were enjoying themselves. In such cases I dont understand why the hell do they take the baby with them? They can easily keep the baby in a safe custody and then can go for shop hunting! But who will explain this simple thing to this irresponsible parents? They will never learn!

...I'd actually like that to become a mandatory junior high or high school class. More important to most people than trig, I'm sure.

But seriously: you don't get to graduate without at least a semester of parenting class. Whether you're going to reproduce or not, you can use the information, and it might just cut down a little on unprotected sex, too.

MAybe it would be a good idea but the matter of the fact is that parenting is supposed to be "innate" , WE are born to reproduce thus we instintively know how to be mother and father. The thing is that people genetic is not always perfect therefore the parenting skill get lost somewhere in the midst of the evolution. That is sad because reproduction is one the basic purpose of human. Being a loving and caring parent should be one of the quality that every human should possess without default.

Stupidty and ignorance room too much in our world nowadays!

NEVER EVER believe your parents when they tell stories like that. The "pram" (why am I thinkin of Ali G here?) was probably watched by one of the parents while the other was shopping for 10 minutes. F**king lying parents!

I don't think that proper parenting is an inherent trait at all. Take a look around at all the dysfunctional families -- you think that's because people are fighting tooth and nail against nature just to make their offspring miserable?

I might agree with someone who says the desire to have kids is innate, but proper nurturing skills -- forget it. Most dads' idea of nurturing is to get the hell out of any emotional development and watch a football game, for Pete's sake.

yeah. The whole "forgot" part just baffles me. How do you FORGET? what the fuck?

Ridiculous and unexcusable.
