Even when I agree with him I can't stand him. -- and his methods can be reprehensible.

I must admit, the man has balls. Asking a senator if they'd be interested in sending their child to war since they wholeheartedly support it is quite amusing. The look of pure shock on their faces was well worth it.
I don't love the guy, but I don't hate him either. I don't agree with everything he says and does, but that doesn't mean he doesn't bring up good points at times too. He's a mixed bag in my opinion.

Well said.
I think that he has some really great ideas but he's better in small doses. The full-length movie format is too much for him. I enjoyed his TV shows. Like when he sent Yaphet Kotto out to try and get a cab in Manhattan but no cabbie would stop. Or when he handed out flourescent orange wallets to black men in Harlem so they wouldn't get shot by police. Or when he visited an empty private prison in Minnesota.
It doesn't bother me that he's an ass. What does bother me is when he parades out a victim to make his point in the most mawkish way possible -- it's like watching the old MD telethon.

Who else does what Michael Moore does? We Americans have easily 100 conservative talking heads (not to mention relgious faith based babbling baboons) spouting moronic Bullshit 24/7. Michael Moore isn't nearly as repulsive or fucked up as the fact twisting right has been.

I really do not find Michael Moore to be anymore offensive than the majority of hacks who think they are doing me some sort of public service by accepting the status quo or worse trying to understand and sympathize with the state of the world. Giving bad politicians a pass to continue with poor policies that serve very few.
I understand he is making a film on healthcare in the US, I know of no right-wing pundit making a film on healthcare, does anybody?
He makes me laugh way more than he makes me squirm, he called out Dick Clark and Charlton Heston...they're big boys.
* the fuck you, it's not directed at anybody in general.....just my immediate reaction to the sort of first amendment bashing tone this thread has in general.

That may be amusing, but it certainly doesn't take balls and it really doesn't have a point.
You don't 'send a kid to war'; the kid chooses to go to war. Maybe for poor reasons, or due to poor economic standing, or whatever, but no parent 'sends their kid to war'. That's just stupid.
Asking someone an asinine question, for purely rhetorical purpose, is not brave; in fact, it's rather cowardly.

Why? If you "intend" never to kill anybody, but then do anyways...are you innocent of a crime? Are you still responsible for your actions?
Talk about letting Bush off the hook..."I didn't INTEND to invade Iraq...so I guess it's OK now with all you leftists?"
Judge by actions, not by what is in one's heart or head, and you can't go wrong in a society of laws.....

Well said. The man has his shortcomings, but politicians simply can't be given a pass. Ever since the 2004 election, I can't bring myself to watch "Fahreneit 9/11" again (and I haven't even watched anything else Moore-related since the election), but I'll always support what he does.
He's not the lefts Bill O'Reilly or Hannity (that would belong to Randi Rhodes).
There's much better whistleblowers, but Moore does more good than harm and if he engages in more debate and questioning, all the power to him.

Im actually very liberal but i tend to keep it under wraps because I dont want to align myself with the pansy ass granola eating folk music listening left wing majority that lost most of their ideals in the 1970s and think being really "out there" involves putting a Kerry Edwards bumper sticker on their Volkswagen.
Michael Moore appeals to people like this.

Thats the problem. I like Michael Moore OK, he's not my favorite or my any sort of a role model, I think he's extremely talented and a great button pusher.
The right wing does everything it can to discount him and say he is unpatriotic, for that reason alone I know he is effective. Also it is the reason I can honestly state I enjoy his candor as millions of other American citizens and patriots do.
I could care less about any past political ideology some hippy, yuppy or left wing bitch has. The "Impeach the President" overpass project he has on his website is working here in Seattle, most every rush hour you will see a sign hanging over a freeway overpass or group of people with signs gathering ay a visible public space.
He's not the motivator of any of this, he just recognizes the project.

I wasn't saying it was brave or had a point. I just said it takes balls, there's a difference. Balls = having the nerve to do something, brave = being courageous and heroic. To show up with a camera crew and put government officials on the spot does take balls, in my opinion. I'd certainly never say that to a senator, that's for sure. And yes, the kids do choose to go to war. He gave the senators information to pass on to their sons and daughters to urge them to sign up for war.
Either way, I do get entertainment value out of Moore, which I appreciate.

Nah, I see a big difference. So far, I've seen Michael Moore provide evidence to back up his claims while O'Reilly seems to be driven by his right wing dedication, not logic or evidence. Sure, Michael obviously is the poster child for your typical, dedicated liberal, but once again, he backs up his claims most of the time, if not all the time.
I got to say though, even the people I know that agree with him hate him. I don't know anyone who looks up to him like he's great.

I am still trying to figure out how unprofressional Michael Moore is?
-As a boy he was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
-He did attend the University of Michigan, was a writer for the paper then dropped out.
-He founded the Flint Voice alternate paper
-Became editor of Mother Jones
-Wrote and directed multi-award winning documentary Roger and Me.
-Won an Academy Award for Bowling for Columbine
- Actually withdrew from the Academy (by putting his film Fahrenheit 9/11 on TV in less than 9 months after release) for what many believed was a shoe-in for the award (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361596/awards).
-Sicko is still in production and is a highly anticipated documentary on the healthcare system in the US (At least four major pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Company, AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline, have ordered their employees not to grant any interviews to Moore.)
He has had and continues to have great success in television, a best selling author and BTW is one hell of a great speaker.
So if getting under peoples skin and exposing hypocrisy seems like a problem to most, Michael Moore is not your cup of tea.
*he also directed quite a few music videos for RATM.

Nothing says charm more than Bill O'Reilly and his co-horts on National television daily spouting speaking points to the faithful.
I know picking on the lefty is vogue today, tomorrow we'll get back and tear up the righty's!

If there were 2 or 3 more of him, not only would your nations hamburger supply be dwindling, most of you wouldn't have to get so worked up about him. There's thousand of faceless rep mudslinger in the media, but for the liberals no one comes close to him. So I judge him to be a necessary "evil", he does good work, still I don't just eat up everything he says, mayhaps one of the main reasons so many people can't stand him...

Nah, son. "Capitalism: A Love Story" was excellent. I don't think it was as good as "Sicko" (possibly his best one, in my opinion), but it was very meticulous in how it showed what a giant disaster the deregulation of the financial industry is. And don't worry, the MIA song isn't used in the movie and to be frank with you, "Paper Planes" has been run into the ground well before Michael Moore's film. I blame "Pineapple Express."
