I guess I'll be 'that guy'.

Sound of Science is fucking dope. my favourite Beastie Boys track and basically that's because of that sample.

Yeah I thought about that but thought it didn't count cuz it's not "Other Music". But there is some very nice usage of Beatles samples all over Paul's Boutique, yeah. (y)

Same.

And then Thankx For Sleepwalking by Naughty By Nature.

The Talib track was a wasted opportunity.

I like the sample on 'Tick Tick', but hate the MF DOOM song.

Helter Skelter/99 problems the "grey album" is pretty sickening.

That's pretty much the only track off of the Grey Album I actually like.

Most of the tracks off that album is great, what about Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Julia? I'm a huge fan of the Beatles and the White Album and after hearing the songs on the Grey Album I went crazy.

Vocals don't match up with the beats. He had the entire White Album to work with. He should have done it right. I think that the majority of what he did was mediocre. People gave in to the novelty of it.

Yeah, that's kind of true. Got to give Dangermouse some credit though, he made an entire hip-hop album out of an almost 40 year old rock album so he did a good job, better than most people could have done. Plus the vocals and beats were "pre-made" so he had to work with what was there.

Checkout the Beastles, I know one of the songs is a mash-up of Lady Madonna.

Meh, I don't really like that track.

What More Can I Say/While My Guitar Gently Weeps is better than the original on the black album.

I like that one and "allure"

Allure was a tough one. I'll give him that. Especially with all those Pharrell vocals in the way. I didn't like the original to begin with, though. But yeah, it was one of the better tracks.

speaking of the Grey Album, I read an article where they interviewed Just Blaze and he was pissed about the Grey Album. His words were something like "I hate Danger Mouse. I was like, you did what with my song? And you're getting hot off it?"

It is pretty dumb that DM got big off of bastardizing two great albums.

If it wasn't him it would have been someone else.

Besides there is a ton of remixes of the Black Album i.e

"Double Black" Jay vs. Metallica
"Purple Album" vs. Prince
"Black and Blue" vs. Weezer
"The Chronic Album" vs. Dr. Dre
"The MF Doom Album" vs. MF Doom
"The Chamber Album" vs. Wu-Tang Clan

The list goes on and on..............

I remember that. I can't remember if he said he hated him, though. But yeah, most of the black album remix albums sucked anyhow. And the one that Just Blaze did had a lot of re-recorded vocals by Jay. So he kinda cheated.

I should have specified- remixes/mashups don't really count. I'm talking proper songs where the artist thought "yo let's show some love to my homeboys The Beatles up in this bitch!" (or something similar/less stereotypical).

Yeah obviously but with some imaginative production they have the potential to make a hip hop song great.

Not exactly on topic, but for any audio geeks (like me!) out there:

Recording The Beatles (http://www.recordingthebeatles.com/)

This new book goes for a hundred dollars - wow. But it weighs 11lbs, has 540 pages and includes other items with it (read their FAQ link). And you can only buy it online.

While I also get a little tired of hearing about these guys, they and their producers & engineers did pioneer a lot of revolutionary recording techniques that are standard nowadays (I don't mean just new equipment, but using existing equipment in a new way to make the music we hear sound totally different or create new effects, in turn allowing the artist to express his/her emotions and ideas better). And, the music isn't too shabby either. :)

Sounds of Science samples:

When I'm 64 (opening bass line)
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (crowd noises and drum beat)
The End (guitar riff throughout)
Back in the U.S.S.R. (plane noises)
