Bad idea, right?
I think I'll use my left over money after I pay for school next semester to get one... this is probably not a good idea, but I'm strongly considering it.
Edit: Damn, how did I manage to leave the "u" out of "buy"? Oh well... typo!

I feel ya.
I've been semi-semi-semi consodering a bit of technical larceny to finance a DV camera + computer and software. :(
Did someone say Matlock????
Oh, my bad. You should do the loan thing and build up some credit. I'm under the impression that Apple tends to discount their shit during the fall for students. So maybe you ought to wait a year? I would have gotten one but I hate Macs. Damn industry standards!!!

Apple always gives discounts to students... which means I could get the one I wanted for about $2000.
As for industry standards, well, that's kind of why I'm doing it. I'm working on building some sort of damn studio to record stuff in, and doing it one piece at a time 'cause that's basically what I can afford to do. Macs are pretty much the standard for using Pro Tools and all that jazz, so I'm lookin' into it. I'd still be using my desktop for almost all this other junk, but if the Mac is cool enough, I might just become a convert anyway...
Okay not to shit on Macs or anything but I haven't been able to do things on a them that I haven't been able to do on a PC just as well. Although Logic is a really nice program. It's a shame that Apple had taken the EA route and bought out the competition with it. I'm not familiar with the advantages of using Pro Tools over cheaper software, like Fruity Loops. Since you seem to be into it could you give me your opinion?
Oh yeah, last year you could get a free iPod with your Mac purchases. The shit was refundable... but still, a 'free' legit iPod.
p.s. one of my friends was in a band that was almost signed to [a major label]. they recorded their demo using a pc and fruity loops... 6 years ago.

My boy SWEARS on his Mac, but he's a graphic designer who adores Illustrator and digs Mac's drag and drop feature.
Personally, I just want one for the widgets..and the whole not having to manually install shit. I would love to plug up a printer or digi cam and have it work without all of that disc bullshit.

I love my 15" MacBook Pro, but I was having problems with the batteries recently and I found out there was a problem with my model's battery
(This is totally different than the recall that Dell and Apple put out on their flammable batteries)
The computer would just die even when it was fully charged... if I removed the nifty magnetic battery plug and left it out for more than five minutes, it would just die at any random moment...
the annoying part about it was I had to go and do some research, and sure enough...
"I qualified for the battery exchange program"
there was no mention of it in industry news or on Apple's homepage, I just had to go and figure it out for myself... they sent me a new battery and I had to have DHS come pick it up from my office today...
otherwise, i love GarageBand and I plan on getting Final Cut as soon as I can...
