My family decided it would be fun to go to California and see my great grandma before she inevitably bites it. She's 97, so it's not that long. Anyway, I felt really guilty about refusing to fly on a plane for so long, even when my granddad was sick, that I decided to suck it up and fly out there even if I died along the way in a conveyor belt accident.
To sum up, not as scary as I perceived. No snakes or towels worn as a headdress. I would do it again, as long as that motherfucking turbulence doesn't ever, EVER happen again.
And I was quite a ways away from San Diego and Sacramento, or else I would've stopped by, crystal and g-mile.
Good stuff! (y) (y)
Turbulence gets most people yo.

have you always had a fear of flying? or was it to do with everything that's gone on it the last 5 years?

what airline / equipment / class did you fly?
i love flying and the whole airport experience. i don't mind taking my belt off and having my pants all sagging, whilst i put my kicks and ice back on. just a sign o' the times.
i don't even care if i get SSSS'd on my boarding pass, i know it'll be taken care of asap, because i never travel with C4 or thermite, anymore.
i have strolled thru TSA with spent 9mm casings in my carry-on and bullet-riddled range targets poking out my knapsack, with no trouble at all.

Everytime I'd fly from the mid-east back stateside, the motherfuckers gave me the ssss's. I got so used to it that I'd already have my shoes untied, belt off and all other shit taken off 5 mins prior to entering customs.
After going through the metal detectors, they'd say, "Mr. Smith, you've been selected for...." and I'd cut them off and say, "I know the drill" and just walk on over to the foot patterns and spread my arms and legs out.
Everytime I flew from there, I'd always choose an Arab based airline. Logical isn't it?

i think the shoes and belt thing are mandatory for all PAX, SSSS or not.
i always got the SSSS because when i fly stand-by i always book the night before or a few hours before departure. also i never have a return leg included in my itinerary. these are all RED FLAGS for TSA apparently. as long as you keep your carry-on 2-legit 2-quit, who gives a shit?
man, if there's a terrorist out there with the surname smith, there must be a lot of people being inconvienced at airports all across america.

that's okay, just come back.
That's cool that you went to visit Grandma and you got to fly a plane.

Wow! Another person my age who hadn't been on a plane before!
My first plane trip was to Edmonton in June, I don't remember most of it because I heavily medicated myself. And that's how it's gonna be when I go back. I remember I wasn't AS medicated on the plane ride home, and I got somewhat nervous.
I don't know if I've been in turbulence, it was just the plane shaking a little and moving a little bit more up and down, just like if you were on the metro or a bus or something. I've always perceived turbulence to be bad dipping and shuddering.
