Okay, so not really a massacre. I thought of the word "shooting" right after I pressed submit and I can't change it now. ANYWAYS! I didn't see any other threads about this, so I thought I'd put it here:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/09/14/montreal.shooting/index.html
It's so weird to me that it happened in Canada. And it made me laugh that the guy who did the shooting was on vampirefreaks.com. What a loser.

Well, he seems to be a gothy douche who was probably outcast. That's what usually happens. So I try to be nice to the gothy douches.
Thank god I'm outta school. This stuff happens only at institutions like schools because gothy douches can't get jobs at corporate worlds. Black eyeliner and piercings don't go well with suits. But it's not like they'd want to work for "the machine" anyways. That's what parents basements are for. (y)

Vampirefreaks.com should say enough.

ok this refers to some i was saying in another thread the other day. there was a massacre like this in melbourne a couple of years where half a dozen people or so were killed. as a result all hand guns were banned in australia. so canadians, would you be willing to give up you're right to own a gun to help avoid something like this happening in the future?

I don't think that would help avoid these situations. A lot of the people who commit crimes do so with stolen handguns. So unless all the guns in the world are destroyed, they can find them elsewhere and steal them.

You read my mind...criminals seldom acquire guns via legal methods. Anyway I think the fact that there's a video game based on Colombine is pretty sick

yeah, i guess different situations apply to different regions. i'm sure getting a gun into canada from the US wouldn't be that hard of a thing to do. This law just introduced into australia a fair while ago. and i cant remember the last gun related death i've heard of since the law was introduced.
i've only ever seen one hand gun in australia since that law was introduced, and i have a feeling it was a replica anyway

Not really. Right after Columbine, there was a copy-cat school shooting in Taber, Alberta.
And don't forget there was the Montreal massacre in 1989 (ok, that wasn't in a school, but you get the idea, shooting sprees still happen in Canada).
And there was a school shooting in Germany (3 or so years back) that had higher deaths than Columbine.

It's still weird to me. I just don't associate Canada with gun violence that much.
AND WHY AREN'T YOU ON GTALK YOU JERKASS?

Columbine is absolutely nothing compared to Beslan, that's for sure

We spent all English class talking about it. The guy had a blog filled with creepy photos of him with guns and knives and stuff. Lucky enough (sort of) that police were in the school when that happened, they were there for a drug related situation. But it did take the police a while to finally take the man down, as there was civilians, etc. Real sick shit.
And to be clear, the news reports say "...College" and a college in Quebec starts at grade 11.

Oops, that WAS a school shooting, as well. For some reason, I had the recollection, it was at a hospital. I was wrong.

Vampirefreaks.com should say enough.
now now, somebody has always got to blame the goths.
behold the offical statement from thier site:
so yes there's been a lot of press lately regarding a shooting in montreal, where the person involved was a member of this site.
i offer my condolences to the victims and their families, it really is a tragic event. however we do not condone or influence this type of behavior in any way. just because someone goes around shooting people and happens to be a member of vampirefreaks, doesn't mean that this website has influenced him to do such a horrible thing. the goth scene is a very friendly, nurturing, non-violent community and we are very supportive of our users and do not condone any illegal activities. we have an excellent team of administrators who moderate the site, and a useful system which allows all users to report illegal and suspicious activity. thank you to all the users who continue to help us moderate the site.
i do think this event is a tragedy, but i feel that this site is wrongly being associated with the shooting. i'm sure this kid also had accounts on various other sites, but the media likes to associate crimes with gothic culture because it makes a better story for them.
so, i just want to ask our members to really try to set a good example to the world, to show that we really are caring, responsible, non-violent people. in fact i believe we are more mature and responsible than other scenes, in that we value intelligence, part of goth culture is thinking for yourself and being more aware of the world, rather than just following the mainstream trends. don't let a few bad seeds ruin our reputation, we are a great community

If goth culture is about thinking for yourself, how come they all dress and act the same and listen to the same music?

I saw some jock on tv saying "it was totally random, he wasn't aiming for anybody"
Yeah right. When you go on a vengeful school rampage, do you aim for the jocks and the popular kids, or do you just shoot into the crowd?

I shat my pants when it first happened because they just said "A Montreal University" at first around here and I assumed McGill, and I have friends who attend school there
totally fucked man.

I dunno. Witnesses said he just shot randomly. But I would think he wouldn't go after the nerds, at least. Maybe he'd go after not only the jocks or popular kids, but also the kids who look "normal" or "mainstream." Cuz you know, goths hate them too.

zactly.
If he was just shooting randomly he would have started outside his house.
If he went to school, then he had a particular group of people in mind, it could have been the entire school, but it's pretty unlikely.
People would say "he just fired randomly" so they don't have to admit that he would target people like them instead of someone else.
