Yes! I won the action figures from the SoCal ACLU auction. I think I've completed my collection now; they were the last things I wanted to get my hands on. Time to shoot some videos.

I do understand that it was for a good cause, but you payed way too much for those things man. I got mine for around 400 bucks a year ago.

Yeah, they're pricey, but the entire amount goes to the only charity I have any interest in. So, it's like I bought them at your price and donated $600 to be a card carrying member. I'm not looking at this as buying $1000 dolls; I'm giving a big charitable donation and getting a premium in the mail. Besides, I've given to the ACLU in the past, so I know I can write this off on my taxes.

Here's another take:
1. They're sculpture (think Venus de Milo).
2. They're sculptures of leading contemporary music figures (think Mozart bust).
3. They are designed/styled by Nigo (think Coco Chanel).
4. They're a limited number of a mass-produced art piece (think Warhol's soup cans).
5. They are another blur on the line between high and low art and art and commerce.
Yes, I paid high and would have to sell low at this point if I wanted to recoup any of my investment, but that will change and they will appreciate. Probably not as fast as if I'd invested in an aggressive mutual fund, but much more fun. I won't sell them even when they do. Mike's mom deals in Picasso. I deal in Beastie Boys/Nigo. The best part to me is how much meaning they represent as art peices and yet how silly the whole thing appears. That's the kind of art that always catches my eye (er, money).
