The Knack (yes, that group) have filed suit (http://www.musicrooms.net/cm/live/templates/default.aspx?a=3236&template=print-article.htm) over an unauthorized sample of "My Sharona" that was used by an obscure group called "Run DMC" in an obscure song called "It's Tricky” that was released 26 years ago. Knack member Doug Fieger claims that he only recently first heard the song.

Looks like someone needs some money. Between them, their record company or just people they hang out with by being in the music industry no one realized it until now? Come on!

to my knowledge there wasnt any strict laws on sampling at that time, and to set a precedent by letting a court case of this nature proceed would basically mean that every single rap song of the 1980s would be subject to a lawsuit. It'll get thrown out of court.

It was sarcasm, I apologize. I've been pretty full of myself and need to take a break from the sarcasm.

Sar-casm; Greek: to tear flesh like dogs,to speak bitterly, to sneer.

As much as I enjoy reading sarcasm and using more than my fair share of sarcasm here (because it's easier to do than actual thought out posts) I am going to refrain in as much as possible in future posts.

What a coincidence, I just downloaded that Sharona song but 3 days ago. I like it.

edit: I listened to both tracks and I think I spotted the sample. It's slower in the Run DMC version, but it's very noticable. It's like a small guitar riff.
