What a fuckhead. Your group was the best thing about youtube. Although most music sites have a video group (eg QOTSA's boards, and wutangcorp), so I'm wondering if this would affect them at some point?

Thanks for all the effort midzi and company.

Because someone reported that video, that is why it's so anoying there are million of mtv videos on yotube.

BTW I checked it Philip Pucci was a director of bieastieography. I removed all clips I hope he swells with joy.

I just wanted to give opportunity for people who didn't see it. I didn't have any personal gains. I wasted just a considerable amount of time on converting, cutting and uploading the clips.

I got the same message from You Tube when I posted the Conan clip, so NBC really has an eye over You Tube (they'd removed it within two days).

Funny cause now Warner is gonna post all their videos on You Tube, for free....

thanks midzi anyway. i'd never seen the whole thing, and had all the parts saved on my favourites. damn good effort. philip pucci can fuck right off, it's not as if he's losing anything. people were enjoying something that isn't going to be shwon again that he made...i'd have thought he'd been happy it had surfaced.

They will, of course, "claim" copyright in bootlegs. A bootleg is no different than any other copy. The are generally of poorer quality, but this doesn't have anything to do with copyright laws. I don't have any problem, morally, with sharing videos through YouTube, but I'll let you guys know that when you upload something you don't own the copyright to--which is basically only something you recorded yourself that doesn't also include other people's music, images, etc.--you are violating copyright laws. I don't know how copyright holders are going to deal with this, but it could end up a lot like Napster.

That sucks. I understand that the guy wants credit for whatever he did, but it's not like it's even available for sale so wouldn't he rather that people see it?

I still can't access the hub so I really really appreciate everyone who posts on youtube. I've had a great time reliving the Beastie memories via midzi's stuff, and I sometimes see something I've never seen before. :)

Man that does suck dick. But Midzi, don't be too upset, we all appreciate everything you did. Especially me, I don't think you know how thankful I am for the youtube BBoys group because almost all that shit pre-2004 I never seen. And I actually spent hours lookin at all the videos on there. Also, I watched all of the beastiography ones you uploaded (which I never seen before) and I really thank you for everythin you uploaded. I love the Beastie Boys! :D

One other thing to think about. For owners of copyright, it's often important to act quicky to remove infringing copies of your material wherever it might be, not just to deprive people from viewing it, but to build up a history of actively potecting your rights in the work for evidentiary purposes in potential future litigation. I doubt seriously whether this guy minds that Beastie Boys fans are sharing copies of the video in a non-commercial venue. But whether or not he has acted diligently in protecting his rights would be very important if he ever has to bring suit against people pirating the video commercially. In a case like that, the copyright owner would want to go to court able to establish that they have been active in protecting their rights. It makes their case a lot more persuasive to a judge. I know net users don't like to hear stuff like this, but think about it. This guy isn't necessarily the Grinch who stole Christmas. What I don't quite understand is that the director, in this case Philip Pucci, almost never actually owns the copyright in the work, they ordinarily direct as a work-for-hire. I would put all my money on MTV owning this thing, which makes it a little strange that Pucci is contacting YouTube.

yeah yeah he had the right to do it i'm not questioning that, but he didn't have to. Videos are removed, case closed.

Here is something positive. This is a comment I got on the clip from Scott and Gary show some time ago.

Gald you all enjoy it! Pretty cool knowing that years after we made the show, it still excites viewers!
