What if it was a double-play by the army, who accepted a bribe from Shinawatra in exchange not for allowing him to keep power, but to flee the country and go into exile? What if Shinawatra knew the army had developed into a force in opposition to him, quite beyond his control, and managed to buy his way to safety through a top-secret deal with a group of Thai army officers, who agreed to time the coup to ensure his safety and permit him a dignified retreat while still removing him from power?
Someone should write a movie about that.
