I was chopping onions at work about a half hour ago and took off the tip of my fucking thumb! Not much, just enough to get blood everywhere. I went to the walk-in clinic but they said they don't do stitches and I should just go to emergency, but I don't even think it's that bad - there's really nothing for them to stitch.
Should I bother going to emergency or just sit at home and drink to dull the pain?

yeah I did the same thing last summer, the walk-in doc said to wrap it tight and re-wrap it daily, leave the bandage on even when showering. I guess the new thing is to let it stay moist...where as it used to be expose it to air and dry out.
Anyway he said stiches wouldn't work as well as the wrap up.
Super glue works well in clean slices.
I cut myself at work all the time.
I use a lot of tools and bloody knuckles is all part of it.
Good Luck.
don't drink, it thins the blood (i think?)
i'm no doctor, but it sounds like just wrapping the sucker up will stop the bleeding eventually...buy a bunch of gauze...tell the cashier at CVS you've been shot or something, maybe you can get up to the front of the line

Yeah. I had a wound on my leg that wouldn't heal. I had to do a wet/dry wrap (soak a piece of square gauze in saline, place it over the wound, then place a dry piece over it and wrap it up).
If you let it crust over, it makes it tough for the new skin to come in due to the hard scab being in the way. If you keep it moist, it will definitely help it heal.

Too late.
Yeah, that's what people said when I went to get tattooed. But I ate a large pizza, so I think I should be fine.

Actually, one of the guys at work has his first aid papers and said the same thing. I have it all wrapped up in gauze and I'll have a look at it tomorrow morning. It stopped bleeding a long time ago too, which is probably a good sign. Still tingles pretty bad, but nowhere near like when I wrapped it up (I almost puked).
Thanks for the suggestions, all (even Turd, though that wouldn't have worked on this one). I'm sure it will be fine.
