Right, unfortunately. That is such a let down, considering Playstation 3 will be region-free. Not to mention the Nintendo DS is, too.

ooh, i don't trust gamestation.
i'm going to go with a big, corporate behemoth like amazon or game. i trust them to care more about their reputation if they fail to deliver! plus i have a game reward card. um. yeah.

haha. but what sort of cider i drink is veryvery specific. namely; magners.
i just realised i said i am a dream girlfriend totally out of the blue, as if i was inviting your friends round for a bit of hankypanky. goodness, no. i was just reading on some gaming blog about girls in gaming and sisters doing it for themselves minus partners to support their gaming habit. but of course! so that's where the comment derived from. and, also, since we're talking about wii. haha. wii.

I don't think I'll bother pre ordering, especially considering the new rumor that GameStop and EB Games will only accept $50 worth of trade in's for it...
I'll take my chances in line at Best Buy.

Gamespot Rumor Control. (http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=24993601&sid=6157841)
According to them, the Gamestop/EB trade-in games preorder campaign is just a test site for Hawaii, and if it succeeds, it will be a nationwide standard. It's unlikely that it will, though.

Why bother with a pre-order? They're shipping millions of these things to america. There wont be lines when its released...you'll be able to just walk in and buy one the first day. Consoles dont sell 6 million units in one day. The Gamecube has sold like 26 million since its release 5 years ago.
Bottom line, they will NOT be hard to find, and in some ways I think this may bite them in the ass. PS2 and Xbox360 were high in demand upon release due to limited initial availability and just sort of created further buzz.

Joystiq news story. (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/19/amazon-speaks-on-quick-wii-pre-order-sell-out/)
Amazon dot com said they took down the link to preorder Wii, because the demand was higher than they expected, and they didn't want to look stupid when they couldn't meet their expectations. They aren't sure how many units they'll be getting either.
The Notorious LOL
09-20-2006, 05:16 PM
it wont sell 6 million units in one week.

09-20-2006, 06:22 PM
I'm not sure if I want to buy a unit near launch. Launch models in general are more prone to be buggy. Yeah, I can always get a warranty with that, and I believe Nintendo has some sort of free repair/replacement commitment that they're known for, but I don't know of the extent of such a service.

yeah. I keep telling myself that with consoles, but I always get them as soon as possible.
i wont be pre-ordering though.

If I'm able to pre-order one, I will. I'm *really* looking forward to play Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Partly because, it brings me back to a nostalgia trip, from when I pre-ordered Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I was following media and information about the game religiously, and the day it launched, my brother went out and picked it up in the morning. We were both anticipating it very much. Although, it should be said, that my brother is not much of a gamer, but that was one of the few games that he enjoyed a lot. Another one was Final Fantasy 7. I'm still surprised, to this day, that I got him into a turn-based RPG. It just goes to show the influence of Final Fantasy 7. Some may see it as a bad thing, because it spawned legions of rabid fanatics, but I see it as more good than bad.
Anyhow, getting back on topic, it's all about Twilight Princess, Red Steel, Excite Truck, and perhaps Rayman Raving Rabbids as well, for me, but I'm not fond of the fact that it won't be a platformer any longer. It will just be a set of mini-games. I'm sure it'll still be fun, though.

I only have enough money saved up to by the console and one game so I'm going for Twilight Princess but if I can get some extra money I'm picking up Rayman, it's going to be my first Rayman game ever and I think it will have some platforming type stuff. (y)

it wasn't officially advertised, and they said they didn't have details of any bundles etc, but they were taking deposits of £20 and our contact isht which would apparently "guarantee" us getting first dibs. they are having a midnight opening too - i've never done something so geeky before! - so it should be quite exciting. they said they're gonna call me up when they have more info to ask what extras i want etc etc. me = stoked.

A couple things to note:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/30/up-close-and-personal-with-the-wii/
A person breaks down the Wiimote and hardware's features on video. I didn't know the Wii would be so tiny. The nunchuk looks attractive - the thought of using a seperate small device with an analog stick is neat.
http://wii.nintendo.com/iwata_asks_vol1_p1.html
These interviews are interesting. President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata interviews key members of Wii development. I'm enjoying this a lot. It's nice to get a glimpse in the minds of the developers, especially Japanese.
I can't wait for this system. I just hope nintendo's 3rd party support remains solid for a change.

I like the look of it and it's priced well...
The only thing that concerns me is I always associate gaming with just sitting with a pad in my hand not swishing around dongles and doofers.
I wish the graphics were a bit "beefier" too. Still, graphics dont make great games....
Miho Mingu
10-01-2006, 04:37 AM
I believe it was Iwata that made a point in that interview I linked, that when the NES released, people were asking "How do you expect us to play games using a d-pad and two buttons?". Well, obviously that hurdle was overcome, and now, history is repeating itself. He also ponders if the Wii remote will become the new standard in years to come.

the problem with the motion-sensing technique is that it has to be really accurate. because else its goin to frustrate the player a lot...ive heard rumours that its not quite as accurate as one would hope, a bad controller alone would break the whole wii console

gah! i'm so excited!
some of y'all better totally be getting one on the launch month or i will have no-one to message. :( et, i'm talking about you!
I'm going to see if I can preorder one, the moment Gamestop/EB accepts preorders for it. Ideally, I'd like to buy one at launch, with Red Steel and Zelda.
News story. (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3154128)
At a Gamestop sales conference, it was hinted that Gamestop will not be taking preorders for PS3 and Wii. This puts matters into perspective. I've had a change of heart. I'll buy a Wii on January. Fuck, I can wait a couple months. No biggie.
Edit: Despite this, nothing is stopping me from buying one from a different store chain, but this gives me an excuse to wait it out, so Nintendo can settle any bugs they may have on the first wave of models.
