When you pay cash for something, do you wait for the 'seller' to tell you how much it is, before letting go or handing over your money? Even if you:
A: Know it's going to cost less than what you have
and
B: Know you're going to get change either way?

I like to pay with exact change when I can, so I wait. but I get my money out/ready while they're ringing up.

I like to haggle, so I usually wait for the asking price and then counter that with my own offer.
working on registers; i know regulars who have both traits. on my side, the ones who wait - it feels as if they don't trust you with their money.
i pay alot with my debit card (it's a small teenager one so i don't get extra charges for it). plus if i pay for cash, i usually work out the price before i even choose what i'm purchasing.
i hate customers who rip something off the shelf and i tell them the price, they act all suprised "oh is it that much?!"

I wait because shop workers round here have a habbit of not bothering to tell me the price, they just put their hand out for the money, so I like to force them to tell me the price.

Good, good. Keep going.

at my store, we have screens that show customers the prices of everything and the grand total at the end.. so they can see the end total. when it's busy as all hell, i usually don't say anything at all because the customer is already handing me money. i still state the change - they got a receipt to check i didn't jip them.
all the old people squint at the screen, still ask how much it is, i'll tell them and they'll say "what?" so i have to say it again.. louder.
then they rub their money for a good 5-10 seconds to see if it ain't stuck to another note.

when there's a screen I usually don't bother, I just hand them the money, I was talking about small shops where the screen is covered/not working/non-existent.
sorry forgot to mention that.
small shops are always pay through the nose anyway... don't blame ya. (y)

I just push the gun ever more forcefully into the cashier's temple.
I still have property in South Florida. I called my painter/powerwashing/handyman guy to get him to powerwash my poolscreen. I thought about it last night. He said he would bill me in the mail and I never asked for an estimate or the cost. He is very reasonable and I needed the work done. You would think I would have at least asked for the price.
I guess I'm tired alot lately with my new crying baby or I have no values.
