take your pick. I choose Simpsons out of nostalgia. But Futurama is not far behind.

nah, it's not even close. The Simpsons in its golden years was the best television program of all time.
Not a south park fan, I take it?

I've had a lot of laughs with The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Futurama, but I have to say, I have the best memories with Futurama. Plus, I've always been a sucker for the futuristic theme.

I picked Family Guy as it makes me laugh out loud, although there is the nostalgia factor with Simpsons, but the more they make they crapper they get.

yeah they shouldve stopped the simpsons 2 or 3 years ago.
the only reason i prefer it to futuramais because i pretty mcuh grew up wathing the classic episodes every day.
i do have all the futurama dvd stuff.
i don't think family guy, good as it is, comes close to either.
edit: where is ren and stimpy?

Family Guy is alright, they have a pretty obvious formula though. Futurama is pretty good, but no where near as intelligent as the Simpsons. Ren and Stimpy wasn't even funny when I was young enough to appreciate its crudeness.

I grew up loving The Simpsons, mainly because "Simpson" is my maiden name and everyone made a huge deal out of it when it first came out. I had a Bart Doll, I did the Bartman, had Simpson's buttons on my jean jacket, the whole nine. We also got shitloads of prank calls too. Kids would be like, "Is Bart Home?"
Eventually, it got really old. And I don't find the show nearly as appealing as it used to be.
I also used to love King Of The Hill, but it wore on me too (and it's not an option).
So.... I had to vote for Family Guy, because Futurama sucks and I have yet to see American Dad.

Ooh, King of the Hill, that should have been an option. I hate Peggy so much, I just love it.
A good thing about buying these cartoon DVD's you know they'll be watched. I've wasted all kinds of money on films over the years, but never regret getting all the Simpsons so far, Futuramas, KOTH's, etc.

True, but I took it as an "overall" post. If you take all the positive and all the negative from all the shows, I'd go for Family Guy over Simpsons. Simpsons had Seasons 3 - 6 that were beautiful, a few more were acceptable and somewhat funny after that, and once it got around to number 10, ALL DOWNHILL. I watched the first episode of this new season just to see if they had new, witty writers...not at all. I didn't even chuckle ONCE throughout the whole episode. And everyone says "Oh, well, they've been on air so long, they're bound to run out of ideas." True. But crappy ideas with witty jokes still go a long way.

family guy sucks.
I used to own the first season and one day I sat down to watch it and I was like "this just aint funny anymore"
while it's true that Family Guy crosses the line the Simpsons won't, it's such a blatant rip of the Simpsons, it's ridiculous. Also, family guy has none of the warmth or charm of the simpsons.
and yeah, simpsons seasons 3-8 are un-fucking-touchable.
QueenAdrock
09-21-2006, 03:03 PM
I wouldn't say it's a full-on rip. You can tell they tried not to copy, but wanted the same "formula." 2.5 kids, parents. Big, fat, stupid father. They did little things to be different. For example, oldest child is in high school and female in Family Guy. Oldest is male and elementary school in Simpsons.
Oh, and one more point:
Lois > Marge. Marge just isn't funny. One time I can remember her being funny, when she was humoring Homer when he asked her if she respected his intellect. All other times, she's been overshadowed and a used just as a prop.

yeah, what's up with that? i can't vote with only those choices up there...dude
new episdoes oct 4....yay :)
and yeah, simpsons seasons 3-8 are un-fucking-touchable.
yeah...the second half or so of season 3 is where it starts to get pretty funny (the leftorium episode, the one where bart falls down a well, etc), but season 4 is just like, 180, oh my god is this the same show, i can't believe how good it is funny. seasons 4 and 5 are just...indescribably good. 6-8 are really good. then it starts to sliiiiiiiiideee down a little.
i don't know why you have to consider the crappy epsiodes of the simpsons when you're comparing it to other shows. even if it hasn't been funny in a while, it put out 6 seasons of some of the best TV ever. that's more than most other shows can claim. even if the newer ones aren't any good, it doesn't change how good the rest of them were.
Planetary

i know 3-8 are the highlights, but it's not like the rest isnt good. 1-2 is still quality, and i still enjoy new episodes, but the animation is too advanced and its not as funny

I'm just glad nobody voted for american dad.
yeah i was thinking the same thing
i mean, it's not THAT bad, i think it might even be a little better than family guy, but it's nowhere near the level of the simpsons or futurama.
futurama fun fact! several of the writers have graduate degrees...i don't know exactly who or how many, but there are PhD's, JD's, you name a D i bet someone on the staff's got one
also, one of the writers was bill odenkirk, brother of bob odenkirk from mr. show...bill wrote for mr. show, too, and i think he acted a little in it, but nothing really remarkable

too bad it's an anonymous poll
if we're gonna just start naming shows i'm gonna nominate mission hill. it's a show created by josh weinstein and bill oakley (two head writers from the simpsons, during the golden years no less) when they realized that there are almost no characters on the simpsons between the ages of 18-25. so mission hill was a show designed to appeal specifically to that demographic. which it did! and that's why it failed, because nobody outside of that age group got it. me though, i loved it. or at least i love it now, i probably didn't know it existed at the time it ran.
mission hill is also a neighborhood in boston, right next to my university. it's apparently pretty shitty, i've never been. i don't know if the two are related.

Agreed agreed 10 times over that The Simpsons were great during their prime. Now it's pretty blah, whatever, new 'sode, Flavor of Love's on.
One Futurama ep brought me to tears, and I'm sure a lot of you will say you did/felt the same. When the dog dies at the end, it's sososo sad. :(
Family Guy just irritates me anymore.
American Dad is Family Guy but with different characters, which is even more irritating.
South Park was good for about 5 years.

The thing about Futurama is that it goes where none of the other cartoons can-- I can think of at least 3 episodes that, yes, got me choked up. The Space Honey one, the one where the dog slowly falls into a restless sleep at the end of the episode (theres a gif in the gif thread), and the one where fry is searching for his seven leaf clover and they go to dig up his "brothers" grave only to find out, well i won't spoil it.

The Simpsons episode where Homer found his mother, and at the end she leaves him, and the closing credits is just him staring at the stars while sad music plays gets me all choked up every single time.
I voted for The Simpsons. It's my 2nd favorite show of all-time.
