He is one of the freakiest musicians ever to make it BIG! The influence of Little Richard can never be understated. He is one Funky Freak that knows how to cut it loose, all the greats have given they're nods to the man, Beatles, Stones, Prince, Springsteen, Elton, etc... he is the MAN!

Screaming Jay Hawkins is another early black performer who really knew his chops. thats a whole other thread.

There's a great Little Richard anecdote in Griel (sp?) Marcus' Mystery Train.

Hearing versions of his songs performed by other artists, regardless of whether they were ones I liked (like The Beatles, Elvis, The Everly Brothers, CCR or The MC5) or ones I had on my "people I'd like to stab" list (like Pat Boone), always sort of underwhelmed me.

not only did he play rock n' roll loud and fast, which would've been enough to piss off 90% of the population, but he was black, rather effeminate and white bitches couldn't get enough. talk about asking for a lynching. fucking awesome.

Yeah, you could say he dodged a couple of bullets there.

...I'm guessing you still haven't heard Jerry Lee Lewis Live at the Star Club.

Really not a Jerry Lee Lewis fan, to be honest.

His voice kinda bugs me. And that hair. That whole marrying tweens thing was kind of questionable, as well.

Little Richard has a house outside of my town. Everyone I know, including my parents, has seen him around town. Except for me. Fuck that noise. I heard he's a born again christian type these days.

he's been born-again so many times. after the Russians launched Sputnik, he took it as a sign from god and decided to pursue preaching. much like his father, but possibly without the selling of moonshine on the side.
